Problem with The antivirus enabled I get "invalid block address" on about 95% of my DVD burns with it disabled I get no problems

I've got this on two seperate PCs I've even gone to the trouble of change my motherboard as I thought that was faulty! (the other PC is a dual core and had failure rate at 25%), I've replaced the type of DVDs I've tried 4 different burners, and three PSUs. I now have a lot of ebaying to do.

Ramping up logging I found an entry

18/01/2009 12:32:12 Logical disk sector J Unknown application Processing error

J is the DVD-RW drive. To me it looks like as Nero tries to burn the disc Kaspersky is getting in they way somehow. As it is not showing an application I can't trust it, plus the processing error is worrying.

An extra info/questions just ask - else I'm going to have to try something else

I have the EXACT same problem. XP SP3, KIS 2009 and Nero 9.2.6.0. I too have found that pausing protection in KIS 2009 stops this error occuring in Nero Burning ROM.

Earlier today before I worked out KIS seemed to be interfering, I logged a support call with Nero. They've not got back in touch yet. I guess I'll now be doing the same with Kaspersky support.

I have also exactly the same problem! Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0.0.506 destroyed 10 my dvd-r (error: Logical Block Address Out Of Range). Today I turned off KIS and I burned whole dvd in 11 minutes without any errors. Before I tried the newest trial Nero, BlindWrite and BurnAware Pro and error at the beginning of the burning process was still the same.
balc
I also have the same problem. I almost RMA'd my new Pioneer burner till i stumbled upon this thread. Verbatim DVD-R & -RW as coasters. I have since uninstalled KIS 9.0. Pioneer burns are perfect.

I have spent the last few days and scrapped over 20 discs trying to track down this problem, Please HELP

The problem is there is a intermittent problem when writing to cd's or dvd's, it is causing 9 out of 10 disc writes to fail with the error "Illegal mode for this track" or "invalid block address".

I have finally tracked this to KIS 2009 version 8.0.0. 506 specifically "Settings - Anti malware - Enable files and memory protection"

If this is enabled it causes disc writing to fail, uncheck it and every disc writes ok.

a bit more info,

I reinstalled a previous image using acronis on to another hdd this has KIS 2009 version 8.0.0.457 on and this writes with no problems. I then did a complete uninstall of KIS and Reinstalled the newer version KIS 2009 8.0.0.506, so it is definetly just not working in the newer version.

The Disc burning software i am using is Nero 7 Premium and it is placed in the Trusted section under Application filtering in settings.

What else could be causing this in the newer version ??? Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Still awaiting a response from support (you can be sure this has coloured my decision on whether to renew when my license expires). In the meantime, you can get around having to pause Kaspersky each time you want to use Nero by:

Protection | Malware | Files and Memory | Settings | Additional | Pause task at application startup | Add new item | c:\program files\nero\nero 9\nero burning rom\nero.exe

Beware, however, the help file on using this options states:

Configuring the Files and Memory component to disable if it conflicts with certain applications is a drastic measure. If conflicts arise when working with this component, contact Kaspersky Lab Technical Support (http://support.kaspersky.com). The support specialists can help you resolve simultaneous operation of the application with the programs on your computer.

It's much more prudent to add the executable to the Trusted zone>Trusted application list and enabling "Do not scan opened files"... should have the same effect, without compromising security. smile.gif
P.S no problems burning DVDs via ImgBurn. smile.gif

Confirmed, this also works.

It appears the problem is somehow related to the Files and Memory Protection module, however (turning the whole module off allows Nero to burn discs, turning it on again and it fails 100% of the time during the lead-in phase).

Thanks for the tip!

Both of these work

I think it could be to do with iswift though I haven't tested as yet - just glad to be able to burn DVDs - as this wasn't included in zonealarm which I previously used

Yes this problem only appeared on updating to KIS version 506. However I have dumped Nero 8 and endorse Imgburn for DVD burning. The only other Nero program I liked was Waveeditor and I now find Audacity (another freebee) much better.
pernod
I also have this problem (see my post "Dvd & Cdr Writing + KIS 2009" ) this only seems to be a problem in the newer 8.0.0.506 version as it has worked perfectly in version 8.0.0.454.

I have not tried imgburn yet , but i dont see why we should be forced to stop using a program that we have bought and works ok just because of a update.

Hi, Can you tell us the ticket number you escalated this on and I will get the bug pushed up.

We would also need traces - open Kaspersky go to Support->Support Tools- enable tracing. I suggest you do this with just the Antimalware files and memory running.

Recreate the issue and upload the trace and a sysinfo file to the support ticket.

Mine is SRF ID: 310549136 (still no update since I raised it on 18th Jan, BTW).

Alister, no need to waste DVDs, the problem occurs even if you simulate a burn in Nero (it still needs a DVD in the drive, but it won't write anything to it).

Exactly right, bravo!
I have Nero 7.5.9.0 and KIS 8.0.0.506.
When burning CDs, it would give an error as if the CD were faulty and eject the CD after writing the prolog. Your procedure fixed it.
Strangely, I did not have the same problem burning DVDs.
MarkDJ
A friend of mine is having the same issue, hope this can be sorted out.

I'll join in the chorus here as well..

Also on the latest build of Kaspersky 8.0.0.506 , and binned probably 20 DVD coasters trying to track this down with Nero Versions 7 thru to 9.

I upgraded to the latest bloatfest Nero 9 to try and resolve it, swapped out my Pioneer burner, swapped cables, etc, etc, before stumbling on a few others reporting the problem.. :-(

I have made the required settings in the Safety Zone for the time being, but I am hoping that Kaspersky address the issue directly

Thanks to all that have contributed so far to tracking this down

Peace

I'll join the ever increasing chorus on here too...

I'm on the latest build Kaspersky 8.0.0.506 (a) and wasted 7 dvd-r's before using dvd+rw's to save on the ever increasing waste of media, i too tried different versions of Nero 6 thro 8 and also tried imgburn but got the same error.... wacko.gif

I even wiped my xp drive and re-installed only to get the same error.... dash2.gif , thanks to this thread I'm now sorted!

A BIG THANX to all contributers b_punk.gif

Destroyed 8 DVD's few CD's and decided to buy a new burner tommorow, and said "let's try to google, just in case...

THANK to the people that solved this problem, Kaspersky is good in everything, even destroying media smile.gif kidding, all software must have bugs, otherwise there will be no future versions and updates.

I use CD's or DVD's INTENSO or VERBATIM and NERO 7.I never had any kind of those problems.( I run Windows VISTA Ultimate x64 & KIS 506)
But I remember having problems when I Used Not INTENSO or VERBATIM.
Maybe you must find the suitable CD or DVD wich works ( or It collaborates with yr DVD Writer.)

SOLUTION:

You have to add *.exe file of Nero to the Trusted Zone with 'Do not monitor application activity' and 'Do not scan opened files' verdicts.

Best regards

Thanks you
Geoff_W
Just discovered this thread...

I'm using Nero 6 with KIS 8.0.0.506 and have been producing coasters from my DVD-R discs. I have successfully burned to a DVD+RW without problems, but I can't yet burn to a DVD-R.

I've tried the various solutions suggested in this thread but nothing works. I am assuming that a 'simulated burn' means to burn to the Image Recorder? If so, this works OK and produces an image file on my HDD, but a repeat burn to the DVD drive fails.

I've attached a copy of the Nero error report.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Geoff

Have you try to add NERO to the Trusted Zone ??????

Yes, just as your pictures show. The only difference was that I did not have the 'Do not scan network traffic' box ticked in the 'Exclusions for application' menu. Would that make a difference?

... because I didn't want to produce another coaster! - which it's now done ireful3.gif

I upgraded to KIS 2010 and made sure all the exclusions were in place, but there is no improvement in the situation. The next thing I'm going to try is to switch off my modem and disable KIS and try again, but not today - I'm fed up.

If I was in yr position I would try a newer version of NERO. I use NERO 7 which is old enough without problems.Try NERO version 9.

Use an alternative program such as BlindWrite 6.0 by VSO Software. Zero problems smile.gif

I have had exactly the same problem

However going your DVD/CD burning exe and components in ''Application control'' choosing edit (for your burner), then application and ticking ''Do Not Scan Open Files' solves the problem, you may have to add extra components afterwards. or turn off KIS when burning . KIS had a definite problem when burning a large collection of files.

NOTE: Adding to trusted zone does NOT solve this problem

I tried about 5 different DVD/CD burners before i realised KIS was at fault, costing me a great deal

After searching around for ages in KIS 2010 I found where to do all those things.................
make sure you have the main GUI for KIS 2010 on the screen, then click on Security Zone tab, then under application control click on the entry you want to change in the list on the right hand side.
Click on Trusted under applications and it will open application activity control list where you can change the status of each entry.

You can also click on application activity.

Is there a way in version 10 to disable scanning of open fileon a program and its components ? , i find this important as my DVD/CD burner wont work otherwise (without disabling KIS)

Well, after producing several more coasters, I've now tried all the suggested solutions and nothing works. So I switched off my modem. paused KIS and, voila, Nero successfully burned a DVD-R.

So that's it, then. Stop using KIS when burning. Job done!

I first posted back in February this year when the first wave of issues were reported relating to KAV 8.0.0.506 , my solution then was to roll back to 8.0.0.454.

I also added the entries in the trusted zone as well, and have had no problem until recently upgrading to 2010 and am now back to square one again.

Only solution is pausing KAV.

Surely someone at Kaspersky can give some insight into why this is continuing to happen, and offer some resolution.

Hi all, I'm having this problem also. I'm using KIS 2010 9.0.0.463. My work around is go to Settings > Threats and exclusions > Exclusions > Settings > Trusted applications > Add Nero.exe > Check all options. Tested working fine after this. But this problem cost me six DVD coasters... Sigh...
Raincity
I had this issue running XP PRO SP-3 with Nero 7.11.10.0 and trying to burn a restore images with True Image 9. Now that I have migrated to Win 7 Pro RTM x86, the same issue still exists. Win 7 DVD maker, ImgBurn and DVDstyler all fail the burning process during the lead in or lead out. Turn off Kaspersky 900463 no problems. I have tried placing the burning apps executable in the trusted zone. No dice problem still exists. I can not open a support ticket because tech support is not ready for Win 7 issues yet.

Wow, I've been having this error since July, wasted over 100 DVDs, bought 2 different dvd writers, I had no idea KIS 2010 was the 1 responsible for all that crap, man, I cant believe this, all that money was thrown away by my beloved KIS. I had a work around which was make an iso of the files that I want to burn then burn them with PowerIso which worked perfectly until few days ago PowerIso started giving me burning errors.. I also had a work around which was to connect the dvd writer externally through a USB connector and it burned just fine..

I will try the Trusted zone solution right now and tell you what's gonna happen.
Sperman
I will be damned, it's working!!

Kudos to whoever suggested this solution.. Let's hope it stays that way cause I know my luck..
drmathprog
The Trusted Zone technique improved the situation greatly, allowing me to burn 5 or 6 DVD-R's instead of producing 100% coasters. However, I still ultimately end up with a coaster, which only switching off kAV solves. Apparently, the trusted zone technique is not the final solution.

No doubt , software (Nero, Kaspersky, and many more) can exacerbate problems with optical drives, however I'm using KIS2010 with mostly default settings (except Concede Resources is turned On) and no exceptions for Nero, on WinXPSP3, and I have no problems doing whatever I want on my optical drive. Much better than a month ago.

I have periodically cleaned inside my box with "canned air". One of my best friends is a cat. After developing nasty problems with my optical drive (usually including "invalid block address", lockups, and the occasional hard system crash), I went searching and found these:

http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/cleanin...r_dvd_drive.htm
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/696522/how_t...n_a_dvd_player/

Under magnification, I found that either the canned air or one of my 5 internal fans had blown a single cat hair onto the laser lens, along with very small dust particles. A cotton swab (Q-Tip), some fancy eyeglass cleaner (formulated not to damage thin film coatings on plastic lenses), and 15 minutes' air drying (with my curious feline determined to get a close look at everything), and my optical drive has been working perfectly.

Sperman
I don't think that would fix my problem cause my case is mostly clean from the inside and the problem wasn't fixed even after I bought a brand new DVD WR which can't possibly have needed cleaning out... I tried burning with my 3 DVD WR on different pcs and they worked just fine but the weird thing was that they all had KIS2010..

Look my previous post No #25!!!!!!!!!
Whizard
How do I reproduce your scenario? Step by step please as detailed as possible smile.gif
Sperman
Okay, let's see.

1- I run any version of nero express
2- Choose DVD or CD
3- Choose the files that I want to burn
4- I put the DVD name and choose the writing speed between 2x to 8x
5- I enter a blank DVD into my DVD writer
6- Start burning

Then 1 of these things happen >>
# The moment burning starts the progress bar jump to 3% then stays there for like 5-10 minutes then I get the Invalid Block Address
OR
# The moment burning starts the progress bar jump to 3% then stays there forever, then Nero freezes, stops responding and the DVD gets stuck inside till I manage to force-kill Nero.

Same problem when I try to burn using the windows burner on both windows XP and 7.

I was only able to burn DVD by connecting my DVD writer externally through a USB connecter then burn the files using PowerISO which also started freezing and giving me errors a couple of weeks ago.

And yes I made sure that all DMAs were enabled.
