What is best way to icorporate this into admin kit to update my workstations?

I tried updatding my server, but did not pull this new version in.

To create an installation package:

Connect to the administration server (see section Starting the program and connecting to the administration server).

In the console tree, choose the Remote install node, open the shortcut menu and click the New / Package item (this command can also be accessed from the Action menu) to start a wizard. Follow the wizard's instructions.

Specify the name of the installation package and the application to be included in the package . To specify the application, locate the application definition file by clicking Browse.... This is a .kpd file included in all Kaspersky Lab applications that can be remotely installed. As a result, the application name appears in the Application name field and version number, in the Application version field.

The installation package settings are set by default, depending on the application to install. You can change the installation package settings in the properties dialog box after the package has been created (see above).

The New Package Wizard dialog box. Defining the application to be installed

In the next wizard box, you can include a license key file into the installation package by clicking Browse and selecting the required license key file (the file has .key extension). If you do not want to add a license key to the installation package, click Next.

Creating an installation package. Selecting a license key.

A set of files required for installing this application on clients is then loaded to the shared folder on the administration server. The server checks the administrator workstation for the availability of the Console Plug-in for this application. If the plug-in has not been installed or its version is earlier than that of the application, it will be installed or replaced.

The Network Agent installation package is created automatically during Kaspersky Administration Kit installation. The package can be found in the Remote install node.

If you accidentally deleted the Network Agent installation package, to create it again, select the klnagent.kpd file in the NetAgent folder of the Kaspersky Administration Kit installation package as a definition file.

After you finish with the wizard, a new installation package will be added to the Remote install node and displayed in the details panel.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Creating an application deployment task

There are two methods for performing an application deployment task on client computers: push installation and using login script-based installation.

Push installation allows you to remotely install applications on specific client computers on your logical network. In executing the application deployment task, the administration server copies installation files for this application from the shared folder to a temporary folder on each client computer and runs the setup program on these computers. To force the installation of an application, the administration server must have rights to start applications remotely on logical network clients. This method is recommended for installing applications on computers running MS Windows NT/2000/2003/XP that support this feature or on computers running MS Windows 98/Me on which the Network Agent is installed.

If the Administration Server and a client interact via Internet channels or the connection is protected by a firewall, shared folders cannot be used to transfer data. In this case, the Network Agent may be used to installation files to the client (see section Configuring the remote installation task). The Network Agent must be locally installed on such computers.

Using login script-based installation allows you to start application deployment when a specific user logs on to the domain (several users). According to the task schedule, the condition of setup program startup is defined in the login script for specific users. The application setup program is stored in the shared folder on the administration server. To start an application deployment task, the administration server must have the right to change login scripts in the domain controller database. When a specified user logs onto the domain, installation will be started on the client computer from which the user has logged in. This method is recommended if you are installing Kaspersky Lab applications on computers running MS Windows 98/Me.

To create an application deployment task:

Connect to the administration server (see section Getting started).

Choose the Tasks node in the console tree and the New / Task item on the shortcut menu or the Action menu to start the task creation wizard. Follow the wizard's instructions.

Specify the task name. If the name you have chosen already exists, _1 will be automatically added to the end of the name.

To set the application and task type select the following :

Kaspersky Administration Kit from the Choose the application for which to define a task drop-down list

Product deployment task from the Choose type of task for execution drop-down list

Remote installation task setup. Defining the task type

Then define the installation package for this task . Open the Select package to deploy list and select the required package among other installation packages created for that administration server.

Creating an application deployment task. Selecting an installation package

In the next wizard box, specify one of the following installation methods :

Use push install - Forced installation;

Use login script-based install - Installation using a login script.

Creating an application deployment task. Specifying the installation method

If you select the push installation method, define the method of selecting the client computers on which to create this task:

I want to select computers using Windows Networking. In this case, the client computers on which to install applications will be selected automatically, based on the data collected by the Administration Server during browsing the Windows network.

I want to define IP addresses for the computers. The client computers will be selected manually.

Defining a method of selecting client computers

If the client computers will be selected based on the Windows network structure, the list will be created in the wizard dialog box in a similar manner as during adding computers on the logical network (see section Adding, moving and deleting a computer from a logical network).

Creating a list of computers on which to install applications

based on the Windows-network structure

If the client computers will be added manually, the list will be populated by entering the IP addresses (or a range of IPs) of client computers.

Creating a list of computers using IP addresses

In the next wizard box, specify the account under which the remote installation task will be started on clients.

The user account must have administrator rights and the Log on as service right for all clients on which you are planning to run the application deployment task.

If you are installing applications on computers that belong to different domains, trust relationships must be enabled between the client computer’s domain and the domain the Administration Server belongs to.

Select one of the following:

Default account - Run the task under the default account if the Administration Server is started under the domain user account and the user is authorized to install software.

Specified account - Run the task under a specified user account if the Administration Server is started under the Local System account or if the Administration Server service account has no rights to run remote installation tasks.

To install Kaspersky applications on clients that do not belong to this domain, log on as a user with administrator rights for these clients to start the remote installation task.

In the fields below, specify information about the user whose account satisfies the required conditions:

Selecting an account

Define the task schedule .

In the Schedule for drop-down list, choose one of the following:

Every N hours

Daily

Weekly

Monthly

Once - Start the application deployment task only once, regardless of task results.

Immediately - Start the task immediately after you finish with the wizard.

Configure schedule settings in the fields corresponding to the selected startup mode (for details, see section Creating a group task).

Scheduling the application deployment task.

The task is scheduled to start Daily

After you finish with the wizard, an application deployment task will be added to the Tasks node and displayed in the details panel. If necessary, you can customize task settings (see section Viewing and changing task settings).

You can also launch the new task wizard to create an application deployment task for a particular installation package in the Remote install node.

To start the wizard:

Choose the Remote install node in the console tree, select the required installation package in the details panel, and click Install on the shortcut menu or the Action menu. The new task wizard described above will start. In this wizard, selection of the application and installation package is omitted. Follow the wizard's instructions.

You can also start a new group task wizard to create a remote installation task for a group of computers.

To run a wizard:

Select the Groups node in the console tree, open the shortcut menu for this node and click Install (or select the same item in the Action menu). The new task wizard will start. In this wizard, the steps of selecting the product and group of computers are omitted. Follow the wizard's instructions.

in the new wks .. there is no exclude option ... does this mean that we can only exclude from workstation policy in adminkit?

How about the setting in truested riskware .... the new wks 5.0.527 DOES NOT! follow the setting of trusted riskware that implemented in wks 5.0.225.

Also no trusted process??

This link returns a 550 error. On the main(?) Kaspersky ftp server, the version in ftp://ftp.kaspersky.com/products/release/...winworkstation/ is 5.0.225. I tried the US ftp server with the same result. Is 527 really out, and if so, where can I find it?

[edit] On the Kaspersky Labs website download page, http://www.kaspersky.com/productupdates?chapter=146274385, there are only Italian and Polish versions of 5.0.225 and a Spanish version of 5.0.200. No English versions at all.

I have installed it and it looks great.

However, I have an issue with the real-time script monitoring. The little KAV icon is not showing up in IE, so I don't know if it's working or not.

It seems there are a couple of small issues:

- In the application interface, under the Protection tab, it says "Downloading updates" all the time, even if there are no updates being downloaded

- The KAV icon in the System Tray looks like the application is scanning all the time.

Martin

Great, all the normal versions now show up. Thanks! I guess we'll all patiently wait for the replacement for 5.0.527 to appear. It's not done till it's done, so better to wait.
