Full Version: Heads Up: Halo 2 Vista and KAV 7.0.0.125 problem
Kaspersky Lab Forum > Beta Testing > KIS\KAV 2010

I can verify that running Windows Vista Ultimate and attempting to play Halo 2 Vista (all original registered software), Halo 2 crashes after 30seconds to 2minutes of game play!

This is the error generated in Vista when Halo 2 crashes.

I have been able to install another licensed product, and play Halo 2 without fault.

Lucian Bara appreciate your help. I will try this a little later since I have uninstalled KAV 7.

However, is this a known issue? Will it be fixed by RTW?

I found that one other way may be to exclude a folder from being scanned, how would I do this with Kaspersky?

Ok after excluding the "microsoft games" folder which includes Halo 2, there is no longer any stability issues with Halo 2. So it seems that Kaspersky AV interferes with file access or load times.

Microsoft Games simply install conflicting API Hooks, which Kaspersky does not like. Enabling compatibility mode solves a problem.

So its Microsoft's scrappy programming laugh.gif wink.gif No surprises there.

Does compatibility in any way make KAV 7 any lesser because of that setting? Or should I just exclude the Microsoft Games folder from scanning? Which would be the preferred approach?

I am not suggesting this is crappy MS programming, What I am trying to tell you, the conflict is due to the copy protection routines most likely. You can definately try "Compatibility Mode". With KAV you should not notice any protection lapses. To protect you from malware, KAV needs to hook deep into the system. Sometimes that causes conflicts with applications. By enabling that option you will relax the hooking mechanism to be less agressive, but you will not loose much sleep over it anyways in the grand scheme of things.
