[FAQ] Testing Installation Assistant (klia) update

This is mini-FAQ about Installation Assistant update testing

 

Supported products:

• KIS/KTS 2016 (16.0.1.445) and newer

• KSOS 2017 and newer

• KS 2018 and newer.

 

OS coverage:

The products should be tested with supported OSes.

 

What to pay attention for:

• Crashes of third-party software

• Breakages/hangs of installers' GUI

• Crahses of product.

 

As a report:

• Dumps (OS/product/third-party apps)

• Traces

• System info

• Screenshots

• Test scenario.

 

Scenario 1:

0. Create directory C:\dumps, apply WER.reg from attach (after this third-party apps' crash dumps will be collected to C:\dumps).

1. Update from test update source, restart product. Check that new version of klia.dll is used.

2. Enable Installation Assistant in System Changes Control settings.

3. Start attached installer.

4. Click Next.

5. Click I Agree.

6. Check that 'Install Delta toolbar' checkbox is unchecked (see example screenshot in attach) OR 'Delta toolbar' page is not appeared.

7. Exit installation.

 

Scenario 2:

0. Create directory C:\dumps, apply WER.reg from attach (after this third-party apps' crash dumps will be collected to C:\dumps).

1. Update from test update source, restart product. Check that new version of klia.dll is used.

2. Enable Installation Assistant in System Changes Control settings.

3. Start some installers and other third-party software.

4. Check that everything works fine: no crashes, no GUI hangs, no GUI breakages.
