Necessity of Anti-Malware software with KIS [cross-post > merged, and closed]

For adware detection and PuP, absolutely. Kaspersky is notoriously "bad" at detecting that stuff, but I think they deliberately choose not to detect it for some odd reason.

I am confused. For someone who is almost computer illiterate the link provided by keverne suggested that the topic of incompatibility between K and Malwarebytes had been closed because the test revealed that MWB is blocked by K and that is simply a fact of life so the two are not compatible or have I completely misunderstood this.

Please feel free to clarify in as simple terms as possible if Malwarebytes and K are incompatible. I will not be insulted.

Thank you

From my experience on a Windows 10 machine and a Windows 8.1 machine, both products work well together.  I run them both in real-time and have for years.  I have seen no incompatibilities.  Other users may have different results.  As I mentioned earlier. occasionally one product with spot something the other one didn't.

Because by default Riskware category is set to OFF. I am sure milage will vary but enabling it might be recommended course of action to take

KIS 18 and MWB Premium work extremely well together in my experience, Win7.1 AND Win8.1.  Sorry, can't comment on Win10.   Seriously, running both in real time has cost me so very little performance ticks that I frankly do not know if I could bring myself to go online without both running.

Such is my minimal annual cost for staying online.

ASIDE:  Hey, Whiz, what's the "Riskware category" you have set to OFF?

Until Whizard gets back to you:

Settings > Additional >Threats and Exclusions > Search for software... (the default option is OFF but a user can select it ON).  It's my understanding that the threats in this category may be legitimate programs (although probably unwanted) and there may be legal issues if Kaspersky prevents their running.  However, a user can select the ON option since he or she owns the machine and determines what runs on it.

Also, see this for Riskware:  https://usa.kaspersky.com/resource-center/threats/riskware

I have licensed KIS 2018 on a Win10 PC.

Is a separate anti-malware software (like Malwarebyte) necessary for extra protection or does KIS fulfill anti-malware role?

Thanks.

Hello arvipat! In my opinion, Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) is better left on its own. Let KIS handle the real-time protection, and install Malwarebytes Free (manual scanning, no real-time protection) version instead as a second opinion scanner. KIS can also detect malware, not just viruses. While Malwarebytes claims that it is compatible with other antiviruses, I would not recommend that it runs in real time because Malwarebytes and KIS might conflict with each other, especially when they manage to detect the same threats. Let KIS handle the real-time scanning, and run Malwarebytes Threat Scan once a week/month for catching anything that KIS might have missed.

Well, that's what I think anyway. Have a good day! :)

Thanks for the help. Sounds good.

Oh, arvipat! One more thing! Just like what Whizard and dh27564 told, I suggest you turn on the riskware/PUP detection of Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) for better protection against Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs). You can turn this on by: Open KIS -> Settings (Gear Icon) -> Additional -> Threats and Exclusions. Under "Types of detected objects", check the box for "Detect other software that can be used by criminals to damage your computer or personal data". ;)

Do note however that these are "Potentially Unwanted" Programs. If Kaspersky detects anything, be sure to check what it is. It might be a program you were truly intending to install.

I have been using Malwarebytes Premium (real-time protection) alongside Kaspersky Internet Security for quite some time.  There have been a limited number of times that one product has found something that the other didn't.

I have each product mutually excluded within the other one.

I've had no issues with any conflicts.

I believe they are both superior products but having them both work in real-time give me a greater level of comfort.

On link https://app-support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2324   ( Updated Jan 22, 2018) on the first link, you have the same problem as people have on https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/217133-resolved-kaspersky-and-malwarebytes/?tab=comments#comment-1193551

?

and what vbarytskyy, said on https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/217008-question-for-mbam-premium-kaspersky-internet-security-users/ ?

"This is currently a known issue with Kaspersky, even if it's fully shut down. We are looking at possible solutions, but no time estimate as of yet. "

If so, so running Malwarebytes beside KIS 2018, while added exclusions to KIS 2018 and changed few settings as mentioned on the two screenshots on

https://app-support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2324

only Malwarebytes's web-protection wont work. Right?

Thanks.

On https://app-support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2324

the second link there, link to the list of exclusions, says this at the bottom:

Malwarebytes for Windows is designed to coexist with other antivirus software, but you should consider adding the other antivirus' files and drivers to Malwarebytes for Windows' exclusions.  To see instructions, refer to the article Add exclusions to Malwarebytes for Windows.

Update: After reading https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-2401

then I uninstalled KIS 2018, tested with Malwarebytes, then it worked fine finally and Malwarebytes did block the website.

I don't know if I should add Kaspersky’s files and drivers to Malwarebytes’s exclusions?

So for now as vbarytskyy, said on https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/217008-question-for-mbam-premium-kaspersky-internet-security-users/

"This is currently a known issue with Kaspersky, even if it's fully shut down. We are looking at possible solutions, but no time estimate as of yet. "

Hello after a very long time.

Now regarding KIS 18.0.0.405(g) and Malwarebytes (free) I can say that in 3 computers running windows 10 Pro x64 everything works fine when both are running togther.( The computers are 1 laptop plus 2 desktops)

P.S.Malwarebytes free version 3.4.4 plus last KIS mentioned before everything works fine.

Best regards

When Malwarebytes is running, I have no issues on Windows Defender Security Center, as you see below. But when I exit Malwarebytes, I see the above screenshot, in my earlier post.

What about you?

I can tell you only that my Malwarebytes is the free one plus I never exit from Malwarebytes so I think that I cannot help you because I use MBAM in a different way as you do.

I figured it out: On https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/191650-malwarebytes-3-frequently-asked-questions

it says:

Quote

Since Malwarebytes 3.0 Premium can be considered an anti-virus replacement, will it register itself in Windows Security Center in order for Windows to recognize it as security software?
We have designed an innovative approach that allows us to run both as a recognized and certified/compliant primary line of defense as well as a layered or complement to other third-party security applications. Malwarebytes 3.0 Premium will only register in Windows Security Center if there is a third-party anti-virus program registered (i.e. a non-Microsoft anti-virus program). If there is only a Microsoft antivirus registered and active, we will not register in Windows Security Center in order to preserve the benefit of layered security. If desired, users will be able to go into Malwarebytes 3.0 Premium Settings and change this behavior to force Malwarebytes 3.0 Premium to either “always register” or “never register”.

So after that, I changed the settings to below, and this time worked.
