There was a problem starting basegui.ppl

Recommended Posts

I've been getting an error dialog box when I click on help or try to use many of the features of KIS.

I upgraded to KIS 2011 thinking this would solve the problem - it has not. To upgrade, I de-installed KIS 2010, rebooted and installed 2011, then rebooted again.

The full contents of the error dialog is:

There was a problem starting basegui.ppl

The specified module could not be found.

What is this "specified module" and how do I tell KIS how to find it?

Thank you.

I ran the kasperksy removal tool, rebooted and reinstalled KIS 2011.

Here is the GSi report.

Any help you can provide will be appreciated.

I've uploaded the GSi report ( http://www.getsysteminfo.com/read.php?file...da768399bd5e341 )

I don't see anything in the report that jumps out at me saying "the basegui.ppl problem is here".

I see a file on my system named basegui.ppl

Directory of C:\Program Files (x86)\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Internet Security 2011\x64

07-Dec-2010 07:22 2,463,928 basegui.ppl

Why can't KIS use (start) this module?

Are you able to connect to Windows Update? Any sign of malware issue? Please attach the zipped virusinfo_syscure.zip; instructions, see: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=678334

I have no problem with Windows Update.

I have no malware that I am aware of. However, because KAS seems to he having difficulty working correctly, I am concerned.

I recently (in the last month or so) have had CHKDSK need to run at boot time on several occasions - not all the time, but most of the time. This need for CHKDSK makes me concerned.

I have attached the virusinfo_syscure.zip file from AVZ.exe

The Suspicious Objects section of this report lists 265 API hooks - to my uneducated eyes this seems high, is it?

Let me know if you need any information on the programs, drivers, etc listed.

Thank you for your assistance.

problem starting basegui.ppl...

Hi, I had started noticing with my Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 a message that reads: There was a problem starting basegui.ppl, The Specified procedure could not be found. My 2012 Kaspersky Anti-Virus Subscription expired yesterday and I have been meaning to renew the program software. Where and how may I be able to renew the Subscription software for continued protection? Also when I click on Help, My Kaspersky Account and Support/Fast Track Support (recommended) the same error message appears again. Also I would like to mention that I have sent in this report. Here is the link to that report. http://www.getsysteminfo.com/read.php?file...2bb73186eb8d919

I look foward in getting to hear from someone and the help in this matter with some assistance is greatly appericated. I thank you. :)

A. Renew: http://www.kaspersky.com/license_renewal

B. Problem starting basegui.ppl: 1. Make sure you have your Activation Code handy.

2. If you can, disable Kaspersky self defense, located in the Settings. If you can't, skip this step.

3. If you can, right click the red K icon and Exit. If you can't, skip this step.

4. If you can, uninstall Kaspersky normally > reboot. If you can't, skip this step.

5. Run the removal tool in Safe mode (tap F-8 key when booting up to get to Safe mode) http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463 Select what specific product is shown.

When the tool completes, don't reboot. Instead, run the removal tool again. Select All known products this time, if a specific product is not shown. Reboot after running the tool for the final time.

5. Download Kaspersky from links in the Important topics, install > reboot and activate with your new activation code. Do a databases update and reboot again.
