I use KAV, but I assume the principle is the same: Frist copy the URL for the site you wish to exclude, in your case onedrive.live.com, then 1) Go to SETTINGS 2) Select ADDITIONAL 3) Select NETWORK (Network Settings 4) Select MANAGE EXCLUSIONS 5) Click the ADD button 6) Paste the URL you wish to exclude in the add box. KAV may edit it. but that is OK. Add the URL. KAV/KIS should no longer monitor or intercept traffic from that site.
  2. Also, Isn't this also the symptom of a Man-in-the-Middle attack? The certificate does not match the site. I would not enter any passwords or credit card numbers on such a link.
  3. This forum has advised people to use CCleaner as part of a protocol to solve problems with Kaspersky which is why I am post this here. According to this article in Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/thomasbrewster/2017/09/18/ccleaner-cybersecurity-app-infected-with-backdoor/#6f46f57b316a the CCleaner servers were hacked and a modified version with a backdoor installed was distributed. Users of CCleaner are advised to update to the latest version immediately.
  4. Also, plus the post located above this post, I suspect you are using a Web Browser based speed test. KAV defaults to checking all "Web Traffic"(and you really want it to do so). Of course it will slow down sends and receives from and to you browser as it examines each and every packet for malware. As a TEST and only as a test, go to SETTINGS > PROTECTION and turn off "Web Anti-Virus" than rerun you test. As soon as the test ends, turn "Web Anti-Virus" back on. I suspect you will see faster speeds. Bu you really, really want to check web traffic during normal operations.
  5. Also, Does the USB drive contain ZIP or other compressed files? If it does the scan will be very slow since Kaspersky first expands the ZIP and then scans each individual file. It is very thorough and safe, but very slow. For flash drives that I have purchased new, have had under my physical control the entire time, and contains nothing but files from my computer and no others, I scan the drives when first get them, Kaspersky scan the files when I copy them to the drive, after that I Do Not Scan the flash drive when I remount it. I use the drives to hold off-line backups of certain important files. If I ever plug the flash drive into another computer, I always do a complete scan when I use it.
  6. If I may add, although patches are downloaded with the database update, they usually require a computer reboot to take effect.
  7. Hi Indio, Thank you very much for the information. I was unaware of this "feature" I have disabled it on all our machines. Is Kaspersky trying to follow Microsoft's example with the Windows 10 update? At best it is arrogant to foist this "feature" off without a "by your leave". I never install new releases. That is asking for trouble. The past several releases of KAV it has been initial release in about August/September, followed by several updates to the code, followed by a Maintenance Release, followed by a few more updates to fix the Maintenance Release. Things are usually stable by February/March of the following year. Also I like to take a System Image backup before I make any major changes to my operating system. Installing a new release of the anti-virus package is a major change.
  8. I would add, have your activation code on hand before you start. Yes, when you uninstall you can save the activation code and when you install the new version it should pick it up, but having the code on hand is a good idea and can save many problems. I am about to preform the same upgrade. I always take a System Image backup before I do any major maintenance and have my Standalone Restore Disc on hand "just in case". If you have good backups on hand, you cannot break anything - even with a hammer <grin>. But just try to slip in one little fix without good backups, and the Forces of Darkness are unleashed. Just my $0.02.
  9. I was not suggesting you turn your present computer into a Linux machine now; I meant after your build your new computer. As you and 'anhbatunam' noted you exceed the Kaspersky minimum requirements, and KAV does run on your machine. I am not surprised that MR1 runs slightly slower; there were new features (which means more code and memory requirements) added.   10. With that hardware, things will be slow. That is slightly less powerful than the desktop I built for my wife in 2007. She is running Windows VISTA 32-bit and her machine also runs slow (I'll be building her a new machine; I'm just waiting to see what Kaby Lake will bring and perhaps Optaine) I believe Kaspersky loads the Virus Definition Tables into virtual memory and pages them in as needed. With a "mere" 2 GB of memory you are probably taking many hard page faults (the operating system must page required pages in from disk). Some things you can do that may improve the system is 1) Go into System Properties > Advanced >Performance Options > Advanced and change Virtual Memory to a fixed 4096 MB that will keep the Page Data Set from expanding and contracting and eating up CPU cycles. 2) Review what processes are running and stop any that are not needed to free memory. Other than that, a new computer is your best option. There should be some good sales coming up around the Holidays. Turn you present computer into a Linux box for Web Surfing and the like.
  11. 1) What operating system are you running? 2) Try launching Windows Resource Monitor. See what process is using CPU. Check the Memory tab and see if you are taking Page Faults. Check disk usage.

  13. Rather than "throwing the baby out with the bathwater", I suggest you back off to KAV/KIS 2015, which is working quite well on my Window 7 x64 SP1 machine. Your activation code will work. You can download KAV 2015 here (assuming you are in the U.S.A.): http://usa.kaspersky.com/downloads/software-upgrades/ Expand the "Kaspersky Anti-Virus" heading, then click on the second sub-heading, "Download Previous Versions and Documentation" When the problem is resolved, then upgrade using the same activation code.
  14. My wife's computer is running Windows VISTA and KAV (Yes, it is old and we will replace it.) The latest version of Internet Explorer (IE) that VISTA supports is IE9. Microsoft still provides security updates to IE9 for VISTA users and will do so until VISTA is no longer supported in April 2017. Unfortunately some sites no longer work well with IE9. My interim solution is to download Chrome, which does run under VISTA, and use it. I went to the Kaspersky site to see if Chrome was supported by KAV and found this article. http://support.kaspersky.com/us/12572#block2 At the end of the article it states, "Note: The plug-in functions only with Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2016 installed." But, the article is listed under Windows 10 and KAV 2016, not Windows VISTA. There does not seem to be an article like it under KAV 2015 and not flagged for Windows 10. Of course you need KAV 2016 to run under Windows 10. My question: does KAV 2015 offer any protection to a user running Chrome under Windows VISTA? Is the KAV 2016 requirement necessitated by running under Windows 10 or by using Chrome? I am reluctant to go to KAV 2016 until Kaspersky resolves the major problems they seem to be having with updates. Sorry for the double post. It looked like this one did not "take" so I reposted.   15. Also, please see the correct answer in the post located above this post. If did not register it in your Kaspersky account and you are covered by fire insurance (either homeowner's or renter's insurance), simply add the cost of the software to your insurance claim.

After checking the forum for the past few weeks, I decided that it was probably safe to upgrade to KAV 2016 from KAV I went to the Kaspersky USA site and downloaded the latest version - KAV That seemed odd; I thought there was a later version. I returned to the Forum. Sure enough, Important Item #3 by Don Pelotas lists as the latest. I followed the link in Don's post and was taken to another Kaspersky site where the latest download is - What is the latest version? Has been withdrawn (due to problems)? When will it be safe to upgrade? I do NOT want to do several upgrades to KAV 2016. I have four computers at three different geographical locations for which I am responsible. I want to upgrade to a stable release of KAV and put the matter to bed for the next year. That is why I waited until now to upgrade.
  18. I just received Patch D for KAV with the regular updates this morning. What does this patch fix? I checked the Release note, but nothing is posted. Also it would be very helpful if Kaspersky would take a leaf from the Microsoft book and display a messages box saying a reboot is necessary to complete the update. I would not have known if I had not be running a manual update and seen that over 2 Megabytes had been downloaded, checked the update log and seen that several .sys and .dll files in Windows directories had been updated. //edit: English Tech Article is here: http://support.kaspersky.com/11185#block0

  22. Unfortunately, I cannot consider this problem resolved. Mr. Tsapovsky said that "The fix came with a module update..." I assume when he writes "module" he means an executable file with an extension like ".exe" or ".dll" I have examined the update logs on my system from 4 September through the latest I have on 8 September (today) and cannot find to entry for an update of an ".exe" or ".dll" module or anything else that looks like an executable. Admittedly, my eyes are not what the use to be and I could have missed it among the other files being updated. Of course an executable need not end in ".exe" or ".dll"; it could end in anything, which makes my search futile. Three questions: 1) What was the name (and extension) of the module? 2) What day was the module sent out? (Time in GMT, please) 2) Is a reboot required to activate the module? The thought that my anti-virus, the program I rely on to protect my computer, could be compromised is, to put it mildly, disquieting.
