Effectiveness of Windows Defender

I have read many articles suggesting me not to go for an anti-virus as the new windows defender is quite effective and massively improved than its previous, less useful versions.  As a customer of Kaspersky Antivirus software, I would like to know how much true this is.

1. WD is listed in List of applications incompatible with KAV 20
2. Kaspersky Community FAQ:

I am going to be open, Winfows Defender is absolute trash. Never detects anything while browsing suspicious sites (pirated movie sites etc.) while Kaspersky always does, it has real-time protection? Only things that WD detects in my experience are false positives.

Kaspersky is the way to go!
