android 15 VPN is...missing?

Recent update to the app, all the usual nonsense with the recent merger with PureVPN (fewer servers, rubbish speed)

That I can just about live with but now the entire VPN facility on my phone has vanished. 

Tried installing the standalone VPN app and it tells me it's included in the main app.

Not anymore apparently.

Seriously unhappy here and unlikely to renew my long-standing licence at this point.
