After an update today, many SSL connections are silently blocked.

Kaspersy Total Security 21.3.19.391
Windows 10.0.19045

At some point this morning [11 Aug 2023] kaspersky updated.

There was also a Windows update with the following:
Security update for MS windows KB5029244
Update for MS Windows KB5028951

After this many of my every day programs stopped connecting:

  • dropbox = unable to log in. Updated the app, logged in but unable to sync
  • sourcetree -> bitbucket = SSL error - refused. Git bash worked/
  • thunderbird = unable to connect to any SMTP servers. Uninstalled and installed v115. This worked until i restarted and then none of the email accounts could connect.

Once i restarted and found then newly installed thunderbird would not longer connect, when it did before the resert, I paused kaspersky - and everything staarted working again,

I have no idea what has changed or where to start looking. I tried adding thunderbird.exe to exclusions, disabled the network settings -> mozilla firefox & thunderbird -> unchecked the scan secure traffic option - and nothing made any difference.

I tried adding thunderbird,exe in network settings -> trusted applications, but it crashed ono save.

Would be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you
