Adware detected - what is the best thing to do?

Hello, everyone.

My kaspersky Total Security detected an .exe file as “not-a-virus:HEUR:AdWare.Win32.Generic”.

First of all, what is an adware? And would it be dangerous if I restore this file? Should I submit this file for a verification for false positive?

I thank in advance for any reply posted.

Hello @Mister B

Regarding restoring the file, only Kaspersky’s Virus Lab expert’s can advise you if the file is safe or not, read & follow the guides below:

  1. Not-a-Virus: What is it? | Kaspersky official blog || Kaspersky Threats — Adware
  2. Follow this guide: Kaspersky notification of detection, file or website detected.
  3. Follow this guide: False detections by Kaspersky products. What to do?
  4. Do not restore the file unless Kaspersky’s Virus Lab expert’s advise you to do so

Hello @Mister B,

Thank you for posting back & the information.

  1. Go to KTS Reports, find & save the report with the not-a-virus:HEUR:AdWare.Win32.Generic events.
  2. Log a case with support, select either Chat or Email, select Malware, False Positive template, zip the detected file & password protect the zip archive with either malware or infected as the password → make sure you tell support the password, ask support to send the case to Virus Lab for them to determine if it’s a False positive; include the KTS Report.
  • Please share the outcome with the Community?

Thank you🙏
