KTS bit heavy on low end laptop

Recommended Posts

I renovating old notebook 15 years old 🤦🤷😏 (i see on russian beta eap web page that somene from Russia have exact model).

Replaced hdd by SSD (much more power faster), will add 2GB ram (total will be 4) and thiknig about replace CPU from T5470 to T9300 (from 1.6GHz to 2.50GHz).

But now KTS latest version (i install KTS rather than newest k Plus) because old notebook and older av should work better but.... CPU while full scan is 70% usage, also 1% 30 minutes maybe more i stopped it.

I know its an old laptop BUT kaspersky should be optimized also for older pc thats fact 1 and fact 2 if will be optimized for an older PCs then in newer pc will run much faster without any issue.

Thats why i am going test kaspersky products on low end laptop too.

My primary pc is desktop with i7 8th generation @5GHz.

That's pretty heavy load for a useless app...

Its okay usage. Eset is best in low impact system and good av. On low end pc i s much better eset without discussion.

Please dont write if you dont understand.

From my expirience eset is far from good antivirus. For example you can do simple test here

www. cpcheckme . com/checkme/

and try eset and other solutions to see how it goes.

On the other hand it isnt even best with impact on system. You have Palo Alto Cortex that is by far in front of any other vendor.

I have implemented kaspersky in dozen govermental institutions and big companies, also have few dozen small business that i work with every day. Thats like cca 15.000+ all kind of endpoints. I have tested business solutions and personal solutions for kaspersky, cortex/traps, eset, avast, bit defender, sophos and i know what im talking about.

Few months ago i have tested Kaspersky antvirus for personal use on a laptop cca 10 years old, some G series cpu, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD with 5400rpm.
After initial update and scan, which was really haevy on that system, everything worked like a charm. Tested it for few days, and nothing changed, it was just working good with cpu for kaspersky process not going over 10-15 %.

There are some settings that you can set in kaspersky antivirus which can help a lot on low end machines, like scan only new and modified files for example, or set light heuristic analysis etc.

If you want i can help you with settings and try to get the best you can on that machine.

Simply kaspersky i am using still on my primary pc desktop i7 8700K but fact is i have 15 years old notebook which i gvinig him 2nd chance as my backup pc. I wanted test kaspersky versions on it beta versions...

But as you can see on screenshots above kaspersky is heavy more heavy than eset thats all. Default settings kapsersky and adlo scan only new and changed files was setup.

There is no best antivirus of the world or etc... Simply nothing is on 100%.

Eset should be better today with detection for example and worse next day... New av comparatives tests are up now you can check that kaspersky has only 3 false positives and eset 10. Eset was king of false positives few 0 or 1 false positives but now 10...

In final words for mé is better kaspersky in detection of malware and ransomware good reaction better than bitdefender also.

Bitdefender is heavy more than kapsersky.

Eset is perfect on low end pc i am 100% sure. And also false positives and aggresive detection on PUA.

Maybe in future i give 2nd chance kaspersky beta on this low end laptop.

It was really slow with kaspersky. Should be improved in future.

Both av was installed on latest Windows 7 with all updates clean installation on fresh new ssd.

Tech spec :

CPU : core 2 duo (T5470)

RAM : 2GB (ordered another 2GB ram g total 4GB will be installed)

SSD

OS : Win7 64 bit

EDIT : CPU 1,6 GHz i wanted replace it by T9300 maybe T9500 2,5 GHz.

I tried test with eset and kaspersky.

First screen is eset second kaspersky... Kaspersky in this test fail. Why i am Red in all these? Eset have 1 Green.

Tried also on android where is kaspersky installed so i am vulnerable but av are installed 🤷

Rather i prefer test from av comparatives.

That's the point. On a first step, it isolates everything. When you click on disinfect and restart, it starts scanning and you can't do anything. You can't access any site on internet, you can't start any app on pc, you can't start even task manager, etc. You can just wait for kaspersky to finnish scanning and restart pc.

After that you get the info about scan and what has been done, but the system is safe.

Anyways, for me, regardless of that that i'm working with kaspersky for years and partnership status, i have my opinion for kaspersky and for me, it is by far best solution on market.

I don't say that every other solution is bad, far from that, i have really good opinion for few other solutions and i know that every other vendor is doing their best to provide most security, but for what i have seen and tested, kaspersky is the best for quite a while.

If you need some help or you have some question that you think i can help, i'll be really glad to help you.

I know this called advanced disinfection.

As i wrote above system is isolated but processes is aborted now (not finished) i dont see checkmarks on exploit and ransomware... Because kaspersky restarted pc.

Also i never said that kaspersky is poor or bad or something else.

I am using it a long time. I just wanted to tell that kaspersky is heavy when scanning. For example on my desktop pc which is high end 500MB ram in usage (this is no problem for me 0,5 GB from 16GB)... BUT for low end pc is a problem 400MB when you have 2GB ram.

In final comparison :

1. Kaspersky is better in ransomware protection against eset and malware remowal.

2. In false positives is eset better as general

3. Leightweigh is eset better on CPU and ram (i tried so i know how it works) as you can see screenshot of ram usage. Simply kaspersky is lagging (latency) mini freezing and eset is smooth in this case.

4. Also when i comparing bitdefender with kaspersky... I see little difference in protection both are perfect for malware and ransomware but kaspersky is quicker i think. And next kaspersky have better consumption on ram and CPU bitdefender is heavy.

All i wanted is that kaspersky developers should be working on it and do better pc consumption ram usage for example.
