Kaspersky VPN blocks Torrents, but others VPN don't.

I recently purchased Kaspersky VPN (yesterday, actually). Previously, I used Clear VPN.

I'm having problems using TORRENT and VPN.

Calling support, case INC000015065852, they informed that it is not possible to use Kaspersky VPN with any Torrent program. And not even opened a case, which I required after this quick answer.

Is this information true?

I changed my VPN provider because I trusted that Kaspersky was a company that offered better service than the small Clear VPN, but it seems that it has some functions that are important to me that are not supported.

I use version 3.0.0.24 of Kaspersky VPN, macOS Monterey 12.4

1. Support has opened and closed it instantly because, as he said, Kaspersky do not offer this type of service. Torrent is insecure in his words. So it’s not a bug, but a feature. I remember that Kaspersky asked if I allowed record that call and I did it.
2. No download/upload even after hours. Deactivate Kaspersky = download/upload goes back to normal.
3. Yes, I did it. Tried USA Los Angeles, Brazil and Netherlands.
4. Imho, dedicated servers to download, bypass Netflix, Hulu et Cetera to allow us watch anything despite our location. Kaspersky also offers a function that I never saw before, which is VPN only for a service (I can pick what app - I use mac - I’d like to hide… VPN on and only use it in transmission, for example).
other function that was redirect a port, this help people which are suffering with CGNAT to solve some of their problems.

5. yes, I live in Brazil and torrent is allowed here.

Hello @LRC

Thank you for posting back & the comprehensive reply!

  1. We don't understand what the Kaspersky customer service rep could mean by "Kaspersky do not offer this type of service." *but*, looking at the information from @Igor Kurzin, who is one of Kaspersky's very knowledgeable & senior team members, we'll tend to take Igor's advice *on every occasion.*
  2. Please clarify what "I remember that Kaspersky asked if I allowed record that call and I did it.", means, we do not understand?
  3. Ok
  4. Ok
  5. Interesting, Windows, KVPN, Supported streaming services, has Netflix, Hulu & many others, not sure why that's not available in the Kaspersky VPN for Mac, perhaps @Igor Kurzin or @Danila T. can advise please?
  6. Ok
  7. You may be interested to read in the Windows KVPN documentation: How to select a suitable virtual server - For torrenting. If you want to download files from online storage or a torrent over a VPN connection. ||| Perhaps the Kaspersky customer service rep needs training ?(ioo).

Just to clarify point 2: I had a call to open this ticket INC000015065852. And this call was recorded. I said that just to improve quality of service.

I'm shocked with one information. As you reported, Windows app has a option saying "VPN for torrents - download huge files easily".

But for Mac, we do not have this option

I do agree with you about Kaspersky check the quality of support per call. And that's why I said my call was recorded

When I try calling they direct, I just got a misinformation!

Hello LRC,

It looks there was some misunderstanding while talking with our support engineer. Sorry for that.

We strongly do not endorse use our service to get illegal access to copyrighted materials, however there shouldn't be any issues to use torrents legally. Be advised that using torrenting is potentially dangerous (malware, etc) if you get torrent file from untrusted source.

Most of our premium VPN locations supports torrenting. A difference between windows and mac versions is that windows one helps you to select the best one for your use case.

Our VPN service (as many others) behaves as NAT Firewall and prevents any incoming connections. That could be difference why some rare files could be downloaded without VPN and couldn't with VPN enabled.

Another option is that linked torrent tracker intentionally blocks any connections from VPN servers and you cannot get peers from it. Also there could be some incompatibility with your torrent client.

Try to download another file (for example, Ubuntu OS image), try to use another torrent client, try to enable DHT in torrent client settings.

Please let us know if it doesn't work, we'll contact you privately to gather technical details.

p.s. we could reply delayed this week because of long public holidays in our region.

Hello @Romanamors

Thank you for responding!

  1. It would be very good if the support issue was followed up to ensure it's not repeated.
  2. Can you please advise why there's no mention of Supported streaming services in the Kaspersky VPN / MAC, documentation, ditto for torrent - the same/similar to the Kaspersky VPN / Windows documentation we provided to @LRC above?

Thank you?

It is important to note that while torrenting itself is not illegal, it is illegal in many countries to download or distribute copyrighted material without permission. It is recommended that you always use torrents legally and comply with copyright laws. Regarding the potential dangers of using torrents, you are correct that downloading torrent files from unreliable sources can lead to malware infections and other security risks. You need to be cautious and only download torrents from reliable sources. It is much more legal to do forex trading  (link deleted) and you won't have any problems). As for your VPN service, VPNs generally support torrent files on most of their premium servers. The Windows version of the VPN may offer additional features or help you choose the best server for your particular use case. The fact that you can download certain files without VPN enabled, but not with it enabled, may be due to the VPN's NAT firewall feature. Acting as a NAT firewall, the VPN prevents incoming connections, which may affect your ability to connect to certain peers or download certain files.
