Heeey, Kaspersky Support Team!

I am writing because my Kaspersky Password Manager (version 25.0.0.225) is crashing unexpectedly on Windows.

 

Problem Summary:

Immediately after I enter my correct master password, the application shows it is "decrypting the vault" and then abruptly closes without displaying any on-screen error message.

Technical Error Details (from Windows Event Viewer):

  • Faulting Module Name: ntdll.dll
  • Exception Code: 0xc00000fd
  • Error Message: STATUS_STACK_OVERFLOW

Troubleshooting I have already performed without success:

  • Restarted both the application and my computer multiple times.
  • Ran the sfc /scannow command to check Windows integrity (no violations found).
  • Performed a full, clean reinstallation of the application using the latest installer from the official website.

The issue persists after all these steps. I believe this could be a bug in the application or a specific issue with my vault file that triggers the "Stack Overflow" error during the decryption process.

Welcome!

  1. Check Windows version & OS *build* - make sure they're the latest commercial version & patch & not from Insider, Beta OR Developer streams -> use WINVER in Windows Search OR systeminfo | findstr /B /C:"OS Name" /B /C:"OS Version" in Powershell?
  2. *IF possible* create a KPM Backup. 
  3. *Update* Kaspersky Password Manager to the *latest* version (currently: v25.0.0.501) from -> https://www.kaspersky.com/password-manager#installation.
  4. Recheck the original issue?

Hello, i'm experiencing the same issue. My Windows Version is 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4484) and Kaspersy Password Manager is updated to latest version. What can I do to solve this problem?

I'm experiencing the same issue reported by another user, but I'm using the latest version of Kaspersky Password Manager (25.0.0.501) on my system.

System details:

  • Operating System: Windows 11 23H2

  • Build Number: 22631.5549

  • KPM Version: 25.0.0.501

  • Note: I am not part of the Windows Insider Program.

Issue description:
After entering my correct master password, the application displays the message “Decrypting vault” and then abruptly closes without showing any error message.

Troubleshooting steps already taken:

  • Restarted the computer

  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Kaspersky Password Manager

However, the issue persists.

Important note:

Kaspersky *only* supports commercially released Windows OS -> Preview is not supported. 

From the link (you) provided, the Preview in the title is the information required to show it's not supported: June 26, 2025—KB5060826 (OS Builds 22621.5549 and 22631.5549) Preview

  1. Install a commercially released Windows OS & recheck KPM25.0.0.501(a)?

I have the exact same problem. The following is my operating system information. I do not use a preview or Windows Insider.

Edition    Windows 11 Pro
Version    24H2
OS build    26100.4770

I have the latest version of the KPM downloaded and reinstalled again. KPM accepts my correct password and then seemingly crashes. However, I can see KPM running in the task manager.

Has any solution been found for this problem?

Same thing's happening to me, wild that this is still an ongoing problem when it was reported to Kaspersky months ago. I'm waiting for Kaspersky Technical Support to get back to me with a fix, but as it's a known problem experienced by multiple users I would've honestly expected a much quicker resolution, and for the problem with KPM to have been fixed already...

I was also experiencing the same issue with the Windows KPM app crashing after trying to access my vault. Support replied today with instructions that has since fixed the issue for me:

Quote

1. Terminate the Kaspersky Password Manager (KPM) process via Task Manager.
2. Rename the local KPM folder to back it up:
   - Path: `%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Kaspersky Lab\Kaspersky Password Manager`
   - For example, rename it to `Kaspersky Password Manager_backup`

After renaming the folder, restart KPM. The application should start fresh and synchronize with your MyKaspersky account.

Unfortunately, in my case the reported solution did not work. Now, KPM seems to not start at all (no icon on the clock box). 

I'm forced to use my kasperky page to access my passwords

Any other solution?

Kaspersy got me to try the solution Cippy posted twice, once while in live chat and again after waiting 24hrs for a solution after sending a GSI Zip file (System info) to Tech Support. Unfortunately the solution didn't work. I'm glad it worked for Cippy. Kaspersky even told me to "ensure Windows 10 update (22H2) is installed"...

...This is a cookie-cutter response that's wildly out of date; I'm on Windows 11 Home (24H2).

Of course Tech Support knew this because they looked at the GSI Zip file I sent at their request, right? Right? Haha, it seems Kaspersky doesnt care or is clueless, they've certainly had time to implement a fix. I'm waiting again for Tech Support to reply. After this non-solution I'll look to a competitor asap, Kaspersky's had plenty of chances, if they don't care why should I?

Hello, just to add my 2 cents to this discussion. I've got this problem 3 weeks ago, this is caused by bad internet connection leading to endless synchronization. My solution which worked for me is to completely uninstall and reinstall Kaspersky Password Manager. 

Also make sure you are not downloading windows updates preview version. right now, my windows version is 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4946)

Thanks Lukemuke79 and Cippy, I used Task Manager to close Kaspersky Password Manager and completely uninstalled and reinstalled. Now it's working, hallelujah!
