  1. It’s in Low Restriction - states could not verify certificate signature - very strange for a MS app that’s been on the laptop since new.

Not the first time that KIS has had a hiccup with certificates - there are earlier threads on here that I, and you I think, have conributed to.

Anyway, while cropping a screenshot to show you the restriction the damn pop-up reappeared so here it is in all its glory.

Have to admit it’s complete gobbledegook to me!

  2. Windows 10 Home 21H1

    KIS 21.3.10.391(f)

Well, this is weird - tried opening several photos to get a screenshot of the pop-up but there’s no problem now !

In Reports yesterday in Application Control “Photos App placed in restricted group” - trust group could not be defined.

Cannot find the pop-up itself anywhere in reports.

No idea what this means or why anything has changed - it happened yesterday and the day before.

  3. When I try to open a photo I am getting a long warning script pop-up from KIS.

I have not been able to copy it but it mentions Internet Explorer (WOT? - never use it) and something about accessing the registry.

Photo won’t open unless I OK it for a period of time, 30 mins max.

Opened same photos many times and this never happened before.

Any ideas what on earth is going on please ?

  4. Hello Bukky, Thank you for your reply.

I am unable to comply with any of your suggestions because I have discovered that after clicking the link to “……proceed to the website” the problem no longer replicates itself, although I have checked that this action does not actually set an exclusion.

In any case I am living with it and just don’t have the time to pursue it any longer.

You should be studying your Community threads where there are, and have been, many complaints about this – so it is not just me by any means.

Given that, I am absolutely convinced in my own mind that KIS is over-zealous in what it checks and accepts, or doesn’t accept, in certificates.

So you should be investigating this and looking for a generic fix rather than asking individual customers, and contributors to the Community, to do all the hard work.

Please look again at my original request where I clearly demonstrated that although gov.uk is rated safe by KIS, any bookmarks to its sub-pages generate the certificate warning.

Those are obviously false-positive errors by KIS which your programmers should be able to correct.

                Best Regards,  John

Subject: Kaspersky Lab Technical Support - ID INC000012583460

    Dear customer, Hello John,

My name is Bukky. Thank you for the email.

Considering you encounter this issue on multiple websites, please provide us with some data to provide insight into the issue :

Data #1 : Provide a few URLs in question

Data #2 : Confirm if Kaspersky is responsible

    2. 1 Please perform the following diagnostics:

    1) Exit Kaspersky and see whether the issue persists. To do that, simply right-click on the 'Green shield' Kaspersky icon in System Tray (on the bottom right corner of your screen), select “Exit” and then click on "Continue".

If the issue persists despite exiting Kaspersky, please let us know. Otherwise, proceed to step #2.

    2) Pause Kaspersky protection and check whether the issue persists. To do that, simply right-click the 'Green shield' Kaspersky icon in System Tray (on the bottom right corner of your screen) and select “Pause Protection...” then select "Pause" and click on the grey "Pause Protection" button in the bottom. If the issue persists despite pausing Kaspersky, please let us know. Otherwise, proceed to step #3.

    3) Try to diagnose which Kaspersky Protection component causes the issue: * Open the main Kaspersky window, click the little cog/gear icon in the bottom left corner to bring up the “Settings” menu, and on the left-hand side click on "Protection". Here you will find the list of protection components in order. Please turn off all protection components by sliding their buttons to the left so that they turn grey. Afterwards, switch the first component (File Anti-Virus) 'ON' by sliding the button to the right.
Then check whether the issue persists. If it doesn’t, turn the second component on (Mail Anti-Virus), but leave the first one enabled. Keep turning components on one by one until the issue kicks in.

Please specify which component caused the issue.

2.2 Check Script Injection option influence:
Open Settings > Network Settings > in Traffic Processing section disable "Inject script into web traffic" option, restart browser to see if the issue persists.

    Data #3 : Create a GetSystemInfo report
The 'How to use the GetSystemInfo utility' guide can be found here: http://support.kaspersky.com/general/dumps/3632

    We remain at your disposal.

Thank you for your time and stay safe.

    Regards,
    Bukky || Technical Support Representative

  5. Thanks again Flood.

I struggled to follow that but I am assuming that you are advising me to set exceptions in HTTP Everywhere rather than in KIS itself.

Meanwhile, as expected, Kaspersky have advised me to do the same within KIS.

This would all be OK if it was just one or two but, as I think I said earlier in the thread, since it happened in dozens of cases it’s just too much hassle.

The gov.uk domain covers several government departments and functions and so  includes hundreds of separate pages, many of which I had bookmarked.

I really don’t understand why the top address works normally but many, although not all, of the sub-pages hit his certificate warning.

I wiil be saying as much to Kaspersky but I don’t expect any joy.

  6. Request sent to Kaspersky support :

I was getting "invalid name if certificate" warnings for several websites that I had used successfully in the past which I therefore believed were false positives. See the example screenshot attached. I knew that my bookmarked site "www.bonavacantia.gov.uk" was merely a subset of "www.gov.uk" which is the official domain of the UK government and therefore perfectly legitimate. I had a long exchange in a community thread which failed to solve the problem. I was using MS Edge at the time but then discovered that the problem did not replicate if I switched to Chrome. So I compared the extensions I had in Edge to those in Chrome and removed one-by-one those only in Edge and re-tried the bonavacantia.gov.uk site each time - and the last one tried solved it ! Eureka!!!! The culprit was "HTTPS Everywhere", so I have removed it permanently. I have also checked a couple of the other bookmark links and they are all now OK. HTTPS Everywhere is a common and popular extension for Edge, Chrome and probably other browsers but I believe that I have proven that Kaspersky Internet Security has a incompatibility with it that causes these false positive warnings. So I am requesting that you investigate this and fix this incompatibility. Thank you.

  7. Well I have solved the damn thing at long last, hope you are still with me.

There was no problem with Chrome (or IE) so I compared the extensions I had in Edge to those in Chrome and removed one-by-one those only in Edge and re-tried the bonavacantia.gov.uk site each time - the last one tried solved it !

Eureka!!!!  The culprit was HTTPS Everywhere, so I have removed it permanently.

I have also checked a couple of the other bookmark links and they are all now OK.

Only goes to prove there is always an answer even if you don’t understand the reason for it.

I thank you sincerely for your help and can only apologise for taking up your time.

  8. @rufford155,

We’ve tested & cannot replicate Certificate name mismatch for www.gov.uk.

If the persistent certificate issue is so frustrating, and clearly it is because you’re complaining so loudly & frequently, why don’t you log a case and give Kaspersky Technical Support the opportunity to assist you?

They will happily do so, but not without a case and data, none of which can be submitted here in the Community:

This looks like you have gone straight to www.gov.uk - I don’t have any problem doing that either.

Now try going to www.bonavacantia.gov.uk - in your browser, not this link - that’s what doesn’t work for me from my bookmark or direct from the address bar.

Clicking I understand and Continue gets me there, notwithstanding HTTP everywhere.

It’s a subsite of gov.uk with info about unclaimed assetss and estates.

Like my other examples, it’s clearly a case of Kaspersky not recognising that the URL is a sub-set of the Issued to name.

  9. How can I mark a best answer when I don’t have any useful reply ?

The best answer would be “Kaspersky have at last realised that their certificate warning system is not fit for purpose because having a site name different from the issued to name is perfectly legal and acceptable so does not render the site dangerous and they are going to fix it

I have been trawling the forum and have found that this issue has been going on for years with numerous complaints about it but absolutely no action has been taken.

  10. This is what you said :

    Reid’s Hotel in Madeira

This website? https://www.belmond.com/hotels/europe/portugal/madeira/belmond-reids-palace/It seems No problem related to digital certification issue at all. is it?

So you had found the hotel web page hadn’t you ?

Then this is what I said :

Well there won’t be a problem if you start at Belmond itself who have the certificate. But when you have reached Reids Hotel, bookmark that page > close browser > reopen browser > Find and click your Reids bookmark. What happens then ?

I don’t know how to put this any differently !
