I have few question regarding renewal of KIS.

I have KIS installed on Vista and Windows 7 PC's.

Sinnce KIS is no longer available, can I install Kaspersky Standard on Vista and Windows 7?

If not, can I buy KIS keys? It would be preffered option for me, rather than installing KS.

Thanks.

Hello @mox

Welcome back!

  1. Vista is not supported, Windows 7 is, however, please readKaspersky for Windows, Hardware and software requirements
  2. KIS keys cannot be purchased online from Kaspersky websites, you may be able to purchase from third-party-merchants (please do not buy from eBay, the *same* keys are frequently sold to multiple subscribers, people have been scammed on more than one occasion) OR you may be able to purchase KIS in a boxed version, from a local store.
  3. Also, please readWhere to buy an activation code?

Thank you🙏

OK, thanks.

If I decide to install KS, will that be considered first install, since I already have KIS?

I am asking because I want to know if I am entitled to discount for the first time user?

Hello @mox

You're most welcome!

  1. No, not necessarily, it's a little confusing, bottom line Kaspersky cannot stop (you) buying a new subscription & Kaspersky do not wish to stop (you) spending money on their products.
  2. IF the current - existing KIS subscription has *auto-renewal* ON (you) should turn it OFF - if there's no option in (your) MyKaspersky account to do this, please get in touch with Kaspersky Customer Service & ask them to turn *auto-renewal* OFF for the existing subscription, then, purchase the new subscription, with the discount.

*Additional* Kaspersky are offering KIS subscribers to convert to Kaspersky Standard for free, read: Kaspersky: Basic, Standard, Plus, Premium - info & FAQ, by Danila T.

*IF* (you) purchase a *new* Basic, Standard, Plus, Premium subscription online, from a Kaspersky website *auto-renewal* is ON by *default*.

I think I have the Auto-renewal OFF,  I will check this.

I will try to buy new subscription for KS.

What will happen if I don't install KS and set KIS with auto-renewal ON, will I get new keys maybe?

Thanks, you are very helpful.

Hello @mox

You're most welcome!

Thank you for the extra questions!

  1. Good.
  2. Ok, *but* Kaspersky are offering subscribers to convert *existing* KIS subscriptions to KSTD for *free* (so - it's none of our business, but why spend money when you don't have too?)
  3. IF *auto-renewal* is ON, the *existing* KIS subscription will be *renewed* at the current market price = **expensive** - Kaspersky always show the following disclaimer: *Introductory price for the first year of your subscription. It will renew automatically at $xx.xx per year. Cancel your subscription at any time.* For example - a UK introductory new subscription costs: £15.99, it renews automatically at £41.99 per year.
  4. No keys will be replaced & the KIS software may change to KSTD (at some stage).

Thank you🙏

2. My subscription will expire in 30 days. After that I will have to renew. Are you saying that if I convert to KSTD now, I will get 1 year for free?

Hello @mox

Thank you for the extra questions!

  1.  No. Kaspersky are offering subscribers to convert *existing* KIS subscriptions to KSTD for *free* - IF (your) *existing subscription has 30days remaining, any conversion done in that 30 day period is free, after the 30days has passed to continue using licensed Kaspersky software (you'll) need to buy a new subscription.
  2. IF (you) purchase KSTD from a *Kaspersky* website the following will apply:
  • There will be no Activation code, the Activation code has been replaced by a license key, the License key is sent directly to (your) MyKaspersky account as soon as the payment is processed.
  • The Subscription / License is *activated* immediately the payment is processed.
  • (You) will receive two emails - read & follow them carefully.
  • When the KSTD *software* is installed on (your) computer, (you) *must* sign-into the KSTD *application* with the same email address that was used to purchase the *new* subscription - to enable the application & the license / subscription to *synchronise* - this equates to activation of the software.
  • Please read: Where to find the activation code for Kaspersky Standard, Plus, Premium.

Thank you🙏

But, if I do that, would that cost me more when I renew subscription after 30 days, because converting into KSTD means Kaspersky can think I used KSTD and hence it's not a first time use.

Hello @mox

Thank you for the extra question!

(ioo) (you) should not *renew*, renewal subscriptions are expensive.

With only 30 days remaining on the existing KIS subscription, there's not much advantage to converting to *free* KSTD, we gave the advice before (you) provided the additional - KIS only 30 days till expiry - information.

(ioo) the best course of action, IF (you're) purchasing KSTD from a Kaspersky website:

  1. Make sure KIS *auto-renew* is not ON.
  2. Allow KIS to expire.
  3. Purchase KSTD with the discount.
  4. Follow the dot-point information, provided in our previous reply.

Thank you🙏

i would've just paid the extra money to renew and keep the kaspersky version i want that i know runs smoothly on the older system i use. it's not worth trying to save a few bucks buying a third party license that may or may not work and reinstalling. it sounds like making a whole lotta extra work for yourself.

@Flood and Flood's wifeprovided @mox with excellent advice that applies to most AV products.  The companies want customers on auto-renewal because they are renewing at full price.  There is no need to get a third-party licence.  Kaspersky will offer you a discounted price to keep you as a customer when your current product subscription expires.

Yes, it is a little bit of extra work, but most of us like to save a few dollars when we can.  I have always turned off "auto-renewal" and I have always been offered discounts at, or immediately before, my subscription to the product I was using occurred.

Some people don't want to be bothered with that, so they choose auto-renewal.  It is THEIR computer, so it is THEIR choice whether they want to pay full price and not be bothered with waiting for the discount offer.

Have a great day.

Regards,
Phil
