Kaspersky secure connection saying my internet connection is insecure.

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have the paid for version of kaspersky secure connection, and turned off my VPN and when I turned it back on it said in the bottom right screen that my network is insecure. I run winows 8.1 and I am the only user. For further information, please see screenshot. I blacked out the name of my isp but it is a reputable well used safe one, why is kaspersky saying it is insecure? Sorry I put the same screenshot in twice by mistake. All help appreciated thanks.

Win8, kaspersky secure connection (PREMIUM). i turned off KSC/VPN, when I turned it back on, popup notification "network x is insecure".
Hello RightProgress, Welcome! Thank you for posting, the detailed information, defining the issue and the images:clap_tone3:, also, two is better than none:ok_hand_tone3::relaxed: I tried to reply last night, however, I kept falling over my words, it's sort of difficult to describe, bc, there's potentially, different reasons for the notification. & my "fake" Win8 console kept crashing, making it impossible for me to create/document everything as a Win8 user would see this, so, I've created an image libray to step you thru some checks. Your Win 8 may have screens slightly different, but, I think you'll be able to follow the guide:
  1. (1)
Windows, Settings, Control Panel, Network & Sharing Centre, View your active networks, click or double click (your device) "network", note, it may be defined as Public, Private or Work
  1. (2)
(a) Check Select a location for "X" network (X = your nw name) (b) Check the setting for [ ] Treat all future networks that I connect to as public and don't ask me again - is it ticked or unticked ?
  1. (3)
Open Kaspersky Secure Connection/VPN, 3 horizontal bars, from the dropdown menu, select Settings
  1. (4)
(a) KSC/VPN, Settings window, is Apply general rules on connection to WiFi networks ticked or unticked ? (b) KSC/VPN, Settings window, select/open Settings
  1. (5)
General rules for connecting to WiFi networks window (a) Is Notify if secure connection to a WiFi network cannot be established checked or unchecked ? (b) Which setting is selected for On connection to insecure WiFi networks ? Open Manage known WiFi networks window (c) Check your network name - how is Action on connection set ? (d) Select/click.double click your network name > opens Settings for "X" (your network name) (e) Action on connection to Wifi network "X" -what is selected ? (f) Notify when enabled checked or unchecked ?
  1. (6)
Return to Manage know WiFi networks screen (a) Select your network name, select Edit Opens Settings for X window (b) Action on connection to WiFi network "X" what is set ? Intermission, time to save this reply,:salad: lunch & :coffee: time, back shortly!

Hello, hope you enjoyed your lunch, sorry this reply is late, The problem did not come up yesterday but it came up today. I appreciate all the screenshots you gave me. I am the only user and worried that my network is public. When I tried to follow the steps Windows, Settings, Control Panel, Network & Sharing Centre, This is the screenshhot I get. I blacked out the name and ref number of my ISP as I don't know if it I am supposed to keep it private. I didnt quite understand what you meant by " View your active networks, click or double click (your device) "network", "so I clicked my private network I clicked the ISP name and reference number and got the following screenshot, and this is where I got stuck I don't want to treat all future networks as public and I am really confused. While I apprpeciate your help, your screen isnt like mine. There are no check boxes as described in your descriptive post. I rang Kaspersky and they told me to ring my ISP who cannot help, so I am stuck. Thanks

Hello RightProgress, Thank you for posting back:pray_tone3: Absolute bottom line, your network isn't "public", please don't panic or be stressed.
  1. The "alert" is a poorly worded, misleading and confusing to many.
I'll go thru everything with your new information & try to create better guidelines. I need 24 hours to do the work, it's not hard, just "hard to explain." In the meantime, can you please go to: Kaspersky Secure Connection application, capture images of ALL screens, censor any defined network names and post back please OR .zip the images in a folder, upload the folder to cloud and pm the link to me please? Thank you. Note: The TS "response" is completely unacceptable and incompetent.

Hi Thanks for getting back to me. The error message in the bottom right hand screen is the only error message I was getting. I am not sure what you mean by "Kaspersky Secure Connection application, capture images of ALL screens, censor any defined network names and post back please" I don't know how to do this, the only other screen is this, server location blanked out for security reasons.

EDIT, I think Ive put the 4 picitures in the right order now.
