Hello,

I am facing an issue with enabling the Kaspersky web extension in the Zen browser. I have already tried the following steps:

  1. Ensured that the Zen browser is up-to-date.
  2. Checked if the Kaspersky extension is listed in the browser's extension/add-on menu.
  3. Restarted both the browser and the Kaspersky application.

Unfortunately, the extension does not appear or function as expected. Could you please guide me on how to properly enable it? If the Zen browser is not supported, are there any workarounds or plans to support it in the future?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hello @Palkia

Welcome!

  1. Unfortunately, Zen is not supported, please read: Kaspersky for Windows, Hardware and software requirements, Browser support
  2. There's a unauthorised hack that utilises the KPM extension, but the browser needs to be supported by KPM for that hack to be configured & unfortunately Zen is also not supported there either.
  3. Not that we're aware of.

Thank you🙏

Since Zen is based on the Firefox browser, try renaming the executable for Zen to firefox.exe. It worked for browsers based on Chromium that weren't Edge or Chrome.

Renaming the executable for Zen to firefox.exe might be a valid workaround, especially since Zen is based on Firefox, and doing so could allow the Kaspersky extension to recognize it as a compatible browser.

Here's how you can try this:

Steps to Rename the Zen Browser Executable:

  1. Locate the Zen browser installation directory:

    • This is usually found in C:\Program Files\Zen or a similar path based on where you installed the browser.
  2. Find the Zen executable file:

    • It should be something like zen.exe or similar.
  3. Rename the executable file:

    • Right-click on the executable file and select Rename.
    • Change the name from zen.exe to firefox.exe.
  4. Restart Zen:

    • After renaming, restart the Zen browser and check if Kaspersky’s web extension now functions.

Additional Considerations:

  • Compatibility with Kaspersky: If the Zen browser is heavily based on Firefox, this method could work because Kaspersky often recognizes Firefox’s executable (firefox.exe) to install and enable the extension.

  • Reverting the Change: If this doesn’t work or causes issues, simply rename the executable back to its original name to revert the changes.

Test the Extension:

  • After renaming, go to the Extensions or Add-ons page in Zen to verify if the Kaspersky extension is now listed and enabled.

Let me know how it goes!

  2. Zen'in yürütülebilir dosyasını bulun:

    • Böyle bir şey olmalı zen.exeYa da benzer.
  3. İcra edilebilir dosyayı yeniden adlandırın:

    • İcra edilebilir dosyaya sağ tıklayın ve Yeniden Ad'ı seçin.
    • İsmini değiştir zen.exetot için firefox.exe. .
  4. Zen'i Yeniden Başlatın:

    • Yeniden adlandırdıktan sonra, Zen tarayıcıyı yeniden başlatın ve Kaspersky’nin web uzantısının şimdi çalışıp çalışmaz çalışıp çalışmaz.

Ek Değerlendirmeler:

  • Kaspersky ile uyumluluk: Zen tarayıcısı büyük ölçüde Firefox'a dayanıyorsa, bu yöntem işe çalışabilir çünkü Kaspersky genellikle Firefox'un idam edilebilirliğini tanır (firefox.exe) uzatmayı kurmak ve etkinleştirmek için.

  • Değişikliğin Geri dönüştürülmesi: Bu işe yaramazsa veya sorunlara neden olmazsa, değişiklikleri tersine çevrilmek için idam edilebilirleri orijinal adına geri adatın.

Uzatma testi:

I tried what you said but it didn't work.
Even if I changed the name of the exe file, it still shows up as Zen Browser in the task manager.
Actually, Kaspersky only asked me to install an add-on for Zen Browser once (while trying to force problematic redirect links) but since the add-on page didn't open, I did a manual install but it still didn't work.

It seems like the issue you're experiencing with Zen Browser and Kaspersky might be related to how Kaspersky identifies and interacts with browser executables and associated add-ons. Here are a few steps to troubleshoot this further:

1. Verify the Add-on Installation

  • Check whether the Kaspersky add-on is installed in the Zen Browser.
    • Open Zen Browser.
    • Navigate to the extensions or add-ons section (usually found under settings or tools).
    • Look for the Kaspersky Protection extension. If it's not installed, manually download and install it from Kaspersky's website or the official extension store for your browser.

2. Rename the Process and Executable

  • Although you renamed the .exe file, it seems the browser is still identified as Zen Browser in the Task Manager. This might be because the application has built-in identification that Kaspersky recognizes regardless of the filename.
    • Try running a different browser (like Chrome or Firefox) and see if the issue persists when interacting with Kaspersky.

3. Clear Cache and Settings

  • Zen Browser may retain settings that are interfering with Kaspersky’s operation.
    • Clear the browser cache and reset the browser settings to default.
    • Reinstall the browser, ensuring it’s completely uninstalled (including residual files) before reinstalling.

4. Kaspersky Settings

  • Check the Kaspersky application control and rules for Zen Browser.
    • Open Kaspersky SettingsApplication ControlManage Applications.
    • Look for Zen Browser in the list and ensure it has the proper permissions and isn’t restricted from interacting with the internet or Kaspersky services.

5. Check Redirect Rules

  • If Kaspersky Safe Money or web protection is redirecting URLs to Zen Browser, it could be a misconfiguration.
    • Open Kaspersky SettingsProtectionSafe Money or Web Anti-Virus settings.
    • Verify or change the default browser used for these features.

6. Log File Analysis

  • Review Kaspersky logs for any errors related to Zen Browser.
    • Go to Kaspersky Reports (often found in the main dashboard or settings).
    • Filter logs for entries related to Zen Browser or add-on installation errors. This might give clues about what's failing.

7. Temporary Workaround

  • If Zen Browser isn’t essential, consider using a supported browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, or Edge) until the issue is resolved.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, consider contacting Kaspersky Support with detailed logs of the problem, including:

  • Screenshots of errors.
  • A description of the issue.
  • Logs from Kaspersky (exported from the application).

Would you like guidance on generating detailed logs or contacting Kaspersky Support?
