I have been a Kaspersky user for many years and I've been really impressed with it. With all the scares about it's safety with its Russian background I rode that out, listening to the guarantees that my account could never be made use of by a foreign power.

But now after a two year deal I am coming up for renewal. I remember your promises, but I also remember the promises that Russia would never invade Ukraine - they didn't seem to be worth that much - and it has really made me question whether, when push comes to shove, any Russian based organisation can be trusted.

I'm not sure what reassurance I want. I have no issue with Kaspersky as a company, but it I don't see that people in Russia as having much choice in these issues - if it's comply or face the consequences for you and your family. In that situation what would I do?

Other products don't seem so good and cost more, but what can one do?

You raised similar concerns back on February 24, 2022; @Danila T., from Kaspersky, gave the following assurances: 

Kaspersky is a private global cybersecurity company, and our job is to protect our customers across the globe, including their data, from any cyber threats.

And as a private company, Kaspersky does not have any ties to the Russian government and moreover Kaspersky is not subject to Russia’s System of Operative Investigative Measures (SORM) or other similar laws, and is not obliged to provide information, since the company doesn’t provide communication services. This has been confirmed by a third-party independent legal assessment of the Russian legislation related to data-processing. The results are freely available online and provide an unbiased and fair legal assessment.

Furthermore, our customers can be confident in the integrity and security of Kaspersky’s solutions, its engineering practices and data services. These have been confirmed by third party independent assessments as well, such as the SOC 2 Audit Type 1 report and during the certification for ISO 27001.
