For years, all my settings in KIS have been the same, and I never change them. Today, I wanted to check some of them and found my KIS unresponsive. I can open settings and browse through the options, but as soon as I click on some of them, it stops responding.  For example, settings -> mail antivirus settings -> attachment filter -> configure attachment filter, and then it stops responding. I can only close the window by clicking the "x".

When I try to open the window again by double-clicking the KIS icon in the tray, it shows in the taskbar, but no window opens on the desktop. I have to close the app completely using the "exit" option by right-clicking the icon in the tray. Then I relaunch the app, and I can browse through the options again. I tried reinstalling the app, but it did not work.

I have not installed any new apps since I last successfully configured KIS. I tried updating my nVidia drivers to the newest ones, but the problem persists.

Hello @Ale.x

Welcome!

Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) is Kaspersky's *old* software, it's been replaced by Kaspersky Standard; Kaspersky are offering a *free* upgrade; read: Kaspersky: Basic, Standard, Plus, Premium - info & FAQ, by Danila T.

The Kaspersky Standard installer can be downloaded from: https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads#update-product

Do the following:

  1. Make sure the KIS activation code is *saved* in (your) MyKaspersky account?
  2. Make sure Windows is *up-to-date* with *all* updates applied?
  3. Uninstall KIS, using Windows Add & remove programs.
  4. Shutdown the computer using SHUTDOWN, not Restart, power ON by pressing the power button, login.
  5. Download & install Kaspersky Standard.
  6. At the end of the Kaspersky Standard install make sure (you) sign into the Kaspersky Standard *application* with the same email address (you) use to sign-into (your) MyKaspersky account so the Kaspersky Standard *application* & the License/subscription synchronise.
  7. Run a Database Update.
  8. *AGAIN* - shutdown the computer using SHUTDOWN, not Restart, power ON by pressing the power button, login.
  9. Check/monitor for any original issues?

Thank you🙏

@Flood and Flood's wifeThanks for answering, but I don't want to upgrade to new software. Why is Kaspersky forcing us to use their new software? KIS is functioning quite well for my needs. Let us use what we choose to use. I paid for KIS; I want to use it. It's ok to give me the opportunity to upgrade to the newest version of the software, but leave that decision to me—the user who pays.

Also, the name of this forum is Kaspersky Internet Security, so I assume it's the product that is still fully funcional...

Hello @Ale.x

You're most welcome!

Thank-you for posting back!

  1. KIS is no longer being developed & OR receiving *patches*, it will receive database updates until it reaches end-of-life; end-of-life date has not been announced by Kaspersky at this time.

It's up to (you) to upgrade or not -> (your) original post reported issues; we provided a solution; IF (you) stay with KIS (you) still need to fix the existing issues; IF this was our problem we'd *upgrade* OR uninstall KIS & *clean* install KIS. IF the issues persisted after a clean-install of KIS we'd *upgrade*; alternatively contact Kaspersky Customer Service: https://support.kaspersky.com/b2c#contacts

The upgrade link provided in (our) original post *also* has links for downloading the *original* software, under the heading: Still using our previous products plans?:  https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads#update-product

Thank you🙏

@Flood and Flood's wife  thanks for the answer, but if this could be a "solution" then, uninstalliing and installing AVG or any other AV software is the same type of "solution".

The thing it's no longer being developed does not imply it should stop working.

🤔 intresting... What do you think I'm looking for here?

As I said in my first post, I already did that and everything is still the same.

Thanks anyway.

Hello @Ale.x

Thank you for posting back!

  • A. ?
  • B. v21.3 has a particular bug that's been fixed in the new version.
  • C. We've offered three different possible 'solutions', all of which have worked for other people reporting similar issues.
  • D. We've provided advice as to what *we'd* do IF the issue was impacting us; (you) can try restoring KIS to default - a *clean* install - done - according to the *defined* procedure - may achieve the same end result.

Other options, do the following:

  1. Do Windows Housekeeping.
  2. Make sure there's no Incompatible software, read: List of applications incompatible with Kaspersky Internet Security.
  3. Make sure Windows Hidden files, is checked/ticked, refer: View hidden files and folders in Windows?
  4. Open Kaspersky app, select Settings, select Generaluncheck Enable Self-Defense, select Save, select Yes - to confirm the action.
  5. Exit Kaspersky app - on the Windows taskbar or hidden icons, rightclick the Kaspersky icon, select Exit.
  6. Go to folder C:\ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP21.3\Report\ and delete the contents = all files and folders.
  7. Start Kaspersky app.
  8. Enable Self-Defense.
  9. Shutdown the computer, using Shutdown, not Restart, power on, login.
  10. Re-check the issue, IF it persists - contact Kaspersky Customer Servicehttps://support.kaspersky.com/b2c#contacts - fill in the template as follow: image.thumb.png.72b1538e24ca6c6b502f7267589dea87.png

@Flood and Flood's wife Thanks for the answer. It seems that the problem is something else, because I tried a full uninstall, then deleted all associated files with KIS, shut down the PC, powered it on again, and did a clean install of version 20.0, but the problem persists.

It is most probably due to the Windows itself, because on my other PC everthying working as it should.

Thanks for the  effort.

@Ale.x

Version 20.0 is even *older* than 21.3.

Try 21.20 version

uninstall K from control panel, do not retain any product info

than you should reboot your OS. If windows fast boot function is enabled, reboot button is the only real reboot. shutdowm is not a complete rebbot.(it will save data from your memory to hard drive, especially for system drivers. not a complete wipe out of your memory)

after that reinstall 21.20 version.

will new version helps?
