Intermittent Freezing/Display Issue When Switching Applications

Hello Kaspersky Community,

I'm experiencing an intermittent issue where, after opening Kaspersky, the application seems to freeze or become unresponsive when I attempt to switch to another program (such as my web browser or any other application).

Interestingly, while Kaspersky appears stuck in the foreground, I can sometimes see the content of the other applications that should be in focus showing through the transparent area of the Kaspersky window. This suggests that while the display isn't updating correctly, the underlying applications might still be running.

The only reliable way I've found to resolve this is to completely close Kaspersky (via the system tray) and then restart the application.

ChatGPT suggested this might be related to a "focus bug" where Kaspersky gets stuck as the active window and doesn't properly relinquish focus when another application is selected.

Has anyone else encountered this behavior? Any insights or potential solutions would be greatly appreciated.

My Kaspersky product and version are:

Product: Kaspersky Standard

Version: 21.20.8.505

My operating system is:

Edition: Windows 11 Home

Version: 24H2

OS build: 26100.3476

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for the welcome and the suggestions, harlan4096.

I have already ensured that my Windows 11 is up to date through Windows Update, including checking for and installing any optional updates. I have also run a ScanDisk on drive 😄 as recommended.

Since the issue I'm experiencing is intermittent and I haven't yet identified a specific trigger to reproduce it consistently, I will need some more time to observe if these steps have resolved the problem. I will continue to monitor my system closely over the next few days/week and will report back with my findings.

Thank you for your understanding and assistance.

Update:

Unfortunately, the issue is still ongoing even after updating Windows and running ScanDisk.

I've now managed to unintentionally trigger the bug again. It seems to occur when I open Kaspersky and then click on the newly automated started "Background Scan."

Furthermore, I've noticed another related behavior: if I manually minimize Kaspersky while a background scan is in progress to bring another program to the foreground, and then I reopen Kaspersky, it remains stubbornly in the foreground when I try to switch back to the other program.

This seems to indicate a potential link between the "Background Scan" process and the issue of Kaspersky not releasing focus correctly.

Could this provide any further clues for troubleshooting?

Thank you for your continued assistance.

Try disabling Background Scan.

Further Update:

I've conducted more testing and have narrowed down the trigger for this issue. It appears that Kaspersky does not freeze or stay stuck in the foreground when performing a Full Scan or a Quick Scan.

However, the problem consistently occurs when a Background Scan is running. As soon as a background scan initiates, Kaspersky becomes unresponsive to attempts to switch to other applications, remaining in the foreground.

This strongly suggests that the "Background Scan" process is directly related to this window focus/freezing bug.

Hopefully, this more specific information will be helpful in identifying the root cause.

Thank you again for your assistance.

If you tell me how to take a screenshot from a frozen window, I can do that as well.

Try pressing [Print Screen] key in Your keyboard, then open Paint app -> File -> Paste -> Save.

I know how to take a screenshot but I wanted to know what a screenshot of the behavior is supposed to show you?

No issues for me with Windows 11 24h2 and Kaspersky Standard 21.20

The only minor issue I'm having is that the automatic database updates don't run automatically (updates are available but not run) from time to time.

I just reinstalled Kaspersky (as suggested by @Xzz123) and now it seems to be fixed!

This one on the other hand I don't have issues with.

For example, my PC had been running for a little over an hour, and when I opened K to do your test, I got the message that K was not up to date and I had the little button to do it
