How to allow battery saving mode

Recommended Posts

I just know this is probably a simple answer but I've just spent an hour and can't find where to allow my daughter's android phone to go into battery saving mode.  Every time she tries to it tells her that Kasperskey Safe Kids won't let her.  Is there a way to give permission for her to control that? :s

Hello @J3W

Welcome!

Some applications on a child's Android device are blocked automatically. This is by design, to lessen the opportunity for a child to cheat and or bypass parental controls, refer: Applications blocked on Android

  1. & 2. (phone) Settings is one such application -> a very important one, that Kaspersky blocks by default; Battery saving mode is accessed via (phone) Settings
  • 3. Only by granting access to (phone) Settings, which is not advised by Kaspersky -> within Settings, many powerful functions can be changed....
    Spoiler

Does your daughter need access to battery saving mode as a one-time event, or on an ongoing basis?

Please post back?

Thank you?

HI Flood ?

Thanks for your reply, that's really helpful.

I can check with her if she can just choose an alternate 'default' level and give her access and then take it away again I suppose.  I think it was just because she wanted to preserve her battery life and reduce the need to charge her phone as often.

What are the risks of her being able to access her settings as they presumably all relate to the phone itself rather than any activity she is undertaking on the internet, for example?

Your help is greatly appreciated. ?

Hello @J3W

You're most welcome, we're very happy to help!

  1. Granting permission to Settings is like giving keys to the front door, the backdoor, & all the side doors of (your) house, turning the alarm off & sending the dog on a holiday; it opens up powerful access to controlling the phone; to the point where KSK may not be functional & you may not know; it may be some time before it's apparent things are not working as they should be; depending upon what's changed & how things have changed; there's so many options within Settings that can be configured - it's not possible to anticipate which outcome may prevail, depending on what was changed -> Kaspersky does not block Settings lightly.
  2. That would be ideal, however, before doing that, there are some specific brands of phones that have documented battery specific requirements, may we know the phone brand & OS version - refer: How to find the version of your operating system - we'll check & see if your daughter's phone is on the list?

Please post back?

It's an android phone.  A Samsung J3.  I don't know if that is enough details?

I've checked in her apps and the 'Settings' is marked as 'allowed' already.  But she showed me when she goes into change the power level, it will only leave it on optimised.  She has no option to change it (the other options are greyed out).

It also won't let her close the open Safe Kids window and whenever she shuts down her phone and restarts it opens a new window.  So that is eating her power and phone capacity up and means she never turns it off now.  The whole app is causing a lot of frustration at the moment. :s

Hello @J3W

Thank you for posting back & the information!

  1. Settings should not be Allowed; if it is KSK has not been installed correctly.
  2. Open phone Settings, scroll to the very bottom of the screen, find About or About phone, select that, take a screen print of the Version information & post back please?
  3. Unable to change power level -> post a screen image of this screen please?
  4. Re "open Safe Kids window" & "opens a new window", which window, post an image of both please?
  5. From what you're describing, it may not be the app, we need to see what you/your daughter sees; we understand the frustration, we're trying to assist.

Please post back?

Thank you?

Your help is very much appreciated.  I certainly don't want you to feel my frustration is directed towards you. ?

I'm going to get her to let me uninstall and reinstall it this weekend and see if it still persists.

I suspect we probably put the settings to 'allowed' when we first went through the app permissions when initially setting everything up (I don't remember as that was a couple of years ago).  I would have just assumed it was for things like power saving modes, layouts etc on her phone.  Not anything that we would have wanted to stop her doing.

Anyway, I'm going to try reinstalling it and if it doesn't work I'll get the information suggested and come back to you.  Thank you again for trying to help us work this out.

Hello @J3W

You're most welcome!

Thank you so much for the update!

We certainly don't feel (your) frustration is personal or directed towards 'us', but even if it was, we'd understand, because, when things don't work as they're expected to, it's frustrating, annoying & time consuming, our goal is the same as yours, to get everything working properly.

?Before doing anything make sure your daughter has a backup of everything on the phone that she considers important?

  1. Check Samsung devices before uninstalling, in case your daughter's device meets any of the criteria?
  2. It's actually good you're going to uninstall, because *AFTER* KSK is uninstalled, go to the power screen, where currently (you/your daughter) are unable to change the power level & check if the options are available, please make sure to capture a screen print?
  3. After uninstalling KSK, please power off the Android, before re-installing KSK
  4. Power ON & for installing, please follow: Install the app
  5. Continue with: Configure the app for your child

If you run into any strife or have any questions, please post back?

Thank you?
