Website Restrictions don't work

Hi, 

I am finding Safe kids blocks too much, and I am having to create custom exclusion rules for almost everything. For example, 

Under ‘RESTRICTIONS FOR WEBSITE CATEGORIES’ I have allowed the catagory ‘Computer games’ however Safe kids blocks;

xbox.com

origin.com

epicgames.com

 

And yet, I have Forbidden Internet Communication, and it allows access to 

tiktok.com!

 

These are pretty basic failures.

I have re-installed the application countless times, on different Android & Win10 devices, due to it losing sync with the account.

I’m getting really fed up with this product, it is far too much over head of effort on my part.

• For  Internet Communication, Forbidden, is that ALL Internet, complete block?

Regarding TikTok, (one of my least favourite apps🤐 ) has an age rating of 12+, set by the developer & Google. KSK allocates TikTok to category Social Networks.

One of my children is 9, I installed TikTok, KSK immediately blocked it, giving the child the option “asks to allow the application”

Notifiication to parent: (MyChild), (Mobile), Jan 15, 01:34 AM

(MyChild) tried to open the forbidden application TikTok on the (Mobile) device. The application category: Social networks, the age restriction: 12+

• For: xbox.com, origin.com, epicgames.com, I’ll test based on your additional information please?

1. Android, may I have an image of installed Applications please?
2. Android & Windows, what browser does your child use? 
3. Regarding origin.com, epicgames.com - are they accessed via xbox or a browser?

If my child tried to access a tiktok url (which may have come up in a google search, or a friend posts in whatsapp) access via chrome browser on Android & Win 10 (not the tiktok app) it is allowed by default.

 

xbox.com

origin.com

epicgames.com

access url via chrome browser on Android & Win 10 is not allowed.

If TikTok is accessed via Whatsapp, KSK applies the Whatsapp rules, any sites accessed from within another application take the host application permissions, however, if TikTok is explicitly Forbidden

• KSK does block access to Tiktok from a Google search✅

So are you saying, any website can be accessed if its a URL/link via WhatsApp, as it has the WhatsApp permissions?

KSK does not check if the the URL is on the blacklist???

• KSK blocks  xbox.com, origin.com, epicgames.com, bc, KSK classifies  xbox.com, origin.com, epicgames.com as belonging to category Electronic commerce. 

 

💡 To manage this, add an “allowed” exclusion for xbox.com, origin.com, epicgames.com✅

• KSK “blacklists” TikTok application, the same “rule” does not apply to TikTok accessed via a www or, as I said above, from “within” another app. 
• To prevent TikTok www access add a “forbidden” exclusion🔴  

• Additionally, I’ll verify the Whatsapp/TikTok theory - our kids don’t use TikTok (not allowed) , don’t like Whatapps, I’ve commandeered the phone to install WA, the rotten thing needs to (re)authenticate = resend sms in 7hrs😖

I’ll verify Whatsapp/Tiktok sometime tomorrow.

Yes as I say, this is just a small example of why KSK is too much of an overhead.

I’m having to add “allowed” all the time.

Recently we had issues with

pets4homes.co.uk
smythstoys.com

too much innocent stuff is getting blocked that’s its becoming too much work for me.

For some reason I can’t authenticate Whatsapp😖 , however, I did the test with Instagram, as per my previous reply, TikTok has full access, KSK does not block.

KSKS may use public age-appropriate ratings, relying on Google, Microsoft, Apple etc, all of whom use age ratings issued by governing bodies, local authorities, etc…

Whatsapp, has a GooglePlay age rating of PEGI 3, with such a low rating (4 is KSK’s benchmark youngest age), KSK automatically assigns 0+

 

To protect, manage our kids we use  a combination of KSK, MS Parental Control, Google Parental Controls, Apple Parental Control, anything that works🤔

I’ve included Parent Guide to Google Play, additional information.

So in a Whatsapp kids can type   www . porn. com  into  a chat and they have access, unless I explicitly block every URL.

This is a  very serious flaw,  you skould make all of your users aware of this.
