Hi,

My PC and Router got  hacked a few weeks ago so I changed all my passwords using a friend's PC and network, replaced my router, and I took my PC to a shop and got them to look for hidden partitions, etc, then remove everything and put in a fresh install of Windows 11. I Then installed Kaspersky Premium in case of a routkit.

Since then my webcam will randomly switch off during Google Meet calls, and yesterday while shopping online, not using my webccam, Kaspersky flashed up that my webcam and mic were in use, but the message went away quickly, and the big blue LEDs on my camera didn't light up. I believe that only one applicaction can use the camera at a time, so I worry that it is switching off during calls because someone else is accessing it.

Is there a valid reason for these webcam issues?

Windows 11 Home Edition

Thanks.

Please check this configuration :

→ Go to Privacy → Webcam and Mic Control settings → Intrusion prevention
→ In the list, select the application for which you want to allow/deny webcam access.
→ Right-click  application name , select → “Details and rules” to open  “Application rules” window
→ Select "Rights" →  Suspicious modifications in the operating system →  Access webcam or Access sound recording devices
→ Action  :  ? Allow / Ask user / Deny ? → Save

Spoiler

Thanks.

Shortly after posting my original message an hour ago I was alerted that Chrome was using my webcam when I opened a webpage in a new tab, I think it was a gardening website. I have now done as you have suggested and set both Chrome and Edge to Ask Permission to use the webcam. There have been no notifications or requests so far.

Is it likely this is down to a hacker or could there be some other reason?
