VPN Doesn't Work on PC and on Router

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Kaspersky VPN works just fine through Kaspersky Android App but it doesn't work through Kaspersky for Windows and through my WiFi Router (Open VPN)

I mean it connects successfully to its target location but I can open web sites only on my Android phone when I connect through the Android app, but when I connect through on Kaspersky for Windows and through my router I can't open any web sites. What might be the problem?

Hello,

It looks like a MTU blackhole issue.

Have you selected WireGuard as protocol in the Kaspersky setting? If yes, please change option to 'Auto'. If 'Auto' is selected already, please contact Kaspersky Support with a link to this topic, we privately ask you for additional data.

Thanks.

I, too cannot thru Kaspersky VPN.  Here, is the message I receive:

This site can’t be reached

theduran.locals.com took too long to respond.

This never was a problem with the previous (pre US ban) version of Kaspersky. Please help!

I cannot access my settings in order to change any 'rules'.

The same problem is here for any other internet sites that I wish to connect to!

Hi @Ayhan Erdem

Please try this below.

Try the Router firsthand.

Changing the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) can help resolve issues related to network packet size when using a VPN. Below is a step-by-step guide on how to change the MTU on both Windows and routers.

Changing MTU on Windows

You can adjust the MTU using the Command Prompt in Windows. Here are the steps:

1. Find Your Current MTU Value

To see the current MTU settings for your network interfaces:

  1. Press Win + X and choose Command Prompt (Admin) or Windows PowerShell (Admin).
  2. Type the following command and press Enter:
    kotlin
    Copy code
    netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

This will list all the network interfaces and their corresponding MTU values.

2. Change the MTU Value

To change the MTU value for a specific network interface:

  1. Identify the name of the interface you want to change (such as "Ethernet" or "Wi-Fi") from the previous step.
  2. Use the following command to change the MTU. Replace Interface Name with the actual name of your interface and MTU_Value with the MTU size (like 1400 or 1500):
    vbnet
    Copy code
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Interface Name" mtu=MTU_Value store=persistent

Example:

vbnet
Copy code
netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Wi-Fi" mtu=1400 store=persistent

This command sets the MTU for your Wi-Fi interface to 1400 bytes. You can experiment with different MTU sizes (common values are 1400, 1472, and 1500) to see which works best.

3. Verify the MTU Change

To verify the MTU change, use the same command as in step 1:

kotlin
Copy code
netsh interface ipv4 show subinterfaces

This will confirm if the MTU has been successfully changed.

4. Restart the Network Interface (Optional)

Sometimes it's necessary to restart your network interface for changes to take effect. You can disable and re-enable your network adapter in the Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.

Changing MTU on a Router (OpenVPN or General Settings)

  1. Access Your Router's Web Interface

    • Open your browser and enter your router’s IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
    • Log in with your username and password.
  2. Find the MTU Settings

    • The exact location of MTU settings varies by router model, but typically, you can find it in sections like:
      • WAN settings
      • Advanced settings
      • VPN/OpenVPN settings (if applicable)

Look for an option labeled MTU, Maximum Transmission Unit, or similar.

  3. Adjust the MTU Value

    • Change the MTU value to a lower one (e.g., 1400) to test network behavior. In most cases, a value between 1400 and 1500 works well for VPN connections.
    • Save your changes.
  4. Restart the Router

    • After applying the changes, restart your router to make sure the new MTU value is in effect.
    • If issue still persists get back with reply i have other information on this topic.
    • Thank you
