**** Please look at pic.  With following am not talking about patch updates that occur through Database Updates. That is not what my questions are about.  I am talking about a entirely new future KAV program version that does not exist now.  For example a hypothetical future KAV version 21.X.XX.XXXX (f).  Would be generally termed KAV 2021.  Under Update settings as shown with pic attached, I have deliberately selected   'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available'   as I do not want to update to a  'entirely new program version'  until it is matured significantly with say a high patch letter. Currently am using KAV 20.0.14.1085 (h) which is matured software as has patch letter (h).  I would not want to go to 21.X.XX.XXXX (a),  but would want to go to 21.X.XX.XXXX (f) due to software maturity.

QUESTION 1:  Because I have this selection, does this mean I would need to manually uninstall the older program version before installing a newer program version when it is available in the future ??

QUESTION 2:  As I selected   'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available'   I am assuming this means that a Total Force Upgrade (TFU) will not occur with my installation.  Is this correct??    **Total Force Upgrade refers to what happens when ‘Download and install new versions automatically’   is selected instead of my selection choice.

QUESTION 3:  Alternatively is it true that should I deselect   'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available'   and instead select   ‘Download and install new versions automatically’  at some future point a TFU will occur and program will offer to update to a new program version when it is available?

QUESTION 4:  When I wish to update the program from my current  KAV 20.0.14.1085 (h) to a new program version in future say  KAV 21.X.XX.XXXX (f),  can I do this by just downloading and installing the newer program version ‘on the top of the older version’ without uninstalling older version first beforehand ??

****Please answer my questions by copying them and then adding your response after each question perhaps in italics.  Will be clearer for me.

THANKING YOU  Felix77

Hello @Felix77,

Welcome!

  1. No, however, the can also be Yes, bc, it’s always recommended to uninstall an old version before installing a new version. Question 4 is also incorporated into my answer to question 1.
  2. In theory this is how it’s supposed to work, however, ime, I’ve had 'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available'  set & still had new versions arrive silently.
  3. The answer to question 2 also answers question 3.

Thank you🙏

Alternatively is it true that should I deselect 'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available' and instead select ‘Download and install new versions automatically’   afterwards at some future point a TFU will occur and program will offer to update to a new program version when it is available ??

PLEASE READ>>>For example currently I am using KAV 20.0.14.1085 (h) with the setting: 'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available' Supposing in 8 months from now I learn that Kaspersky has released a future version of KAV version 21.X.XX.XXXX (a) . Subsequently I then change the program update setting to: ‘Download and install new versions automatically’

QUESTION 1. Does this mean a TFU will occur and new program will silently download and GUI will inform me is new program and offer to install it. ??

QUESTION 2. AND there will be no need to manually uninstall the old version and manually install the new version ??

Thx Felix77

Hello @Felix77

QUESTION 1.

If you’ve configured KAV  'Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when they are available', a version is released and you decided, AFTER the event, to change KAV to : ‘Download and install new versions automatically’, you will not be notified as the new version distribution has happened “in the past”.

If ‘Download and install new versions automatically’, is configured: new versions & patches arrive silently.

(Apparently, according to a Moderato, but not to Kaspersky Technical Support) there is a 7day setting, if a device is NOT shutdown within the 7days, the Kaspersky application icon in the Windows Taskbar will turn RED and a notification will be seen in the Kaspersky application Notification Centre, “Computer reboot is required for successful installation... “.

Why this information is not shared with Kaspersky Customers, as soon as a version or patch arrives, is unknown atm & the subject of much discussion.

QUESTION 2.

I have answered this previously, you may “choose” to install over the top of existing Kaspersky software, however, the recommended procedure is to uninstall (the old version), following all documented steps and peform a clean install, following all documented steps.

Unless there is something wrong with the Operating system, ALL Kaspersky products uninstall seamlessly using Windows Uninstall.

Never use Kavremover unless instructed to & guided by Kaspersky Technical experts

Thank you🙏
