Rapid Cycling of attached Hard Drives (WD MyBook Terabyte Storage Drives)

I've been a Kaspersky user for well over 15 years and is the only virus and internet protection software I've recommended to my customers.  Of the over One Thousand computer service calls I've completed starting with Win95 to Windows11, I never had a service call for an infected system that was protected by Kaspersky.  This was not the case on computers with _ymantec, _orton, _cAfee, _itdefender and _vast.

Question:  I am experiencing rapid cycling of attached external terabyte WD MyBook storage devices and am wondering how I can prevent this from occurring?  Since I only use these large Terabyte drives to store data / backups I don't believe intermittent scanning of these devices is essential.
