KES MAC 11.1 CPU spike during Virus scan

Recommended Posts

I have created a ticket for support on this already.  Has anyone else been noticing that during a full virus scan on a Mac with KES 11X that the CPU utilization is around 300% under service KAVD in Activity monitor.  Also all fans are powering on, making VERY noticeable to the end user, and they are mentioning their machines are slow

The scan also takes around 3 hours to complete.

We do have similar problem. KES for Mac has been nothing but a nightmare for us. We had to stop doing full scan unless a malware or a virus has been detected. And honestly even without any scan and the security policy set to minimum and tweaked to give maximum performance, Kasperksy still render Macs unusable.
And honestly Kaspersky support has been nothing but useless, the asked us for tones of logs and no solution in sight.

Thank-you for the feedback.  Big Sur 11.2.3 which just came, out seems to have made a slight improvement in length of time a scan took. Also having newer Mac Hardware and SSD drives showed BIG improvements, so we can at least use that to help our units buy better hardware :) Hopefully in future versions, the Mac version will behave as efficiently as the Windows client does.

Having used Kaspersky corporate products for ca 10 years, made a decision to switch my Macs to F-Secure, in spite of 2-year Kaspersky license renewal purchased a couple of months ago.

Windows workstations will keep Kaspersky, though.

How do you find F-Secure as compared to Kaspersky? Are you receiving any slow down complaints from end users now?

How Does the price compare?

Is it console managed, similar to KSC?

No -- in a drastic contrast to Kaspersky on Mac. Heavy user complaints about Kaspersky were the driver to investigate the F-Secure solution.

Somewhat more expensive but not dramatically. It’s actually hard to compare them 1:1 as F-Secure offers in-the-cloud something like “Kaspersky Endpoint Clould Plus + some parts of KATAP/KEDR“ for the “available baseline”. On-prem solution of F-Secure costs about the same but provides only KSC-equivalent functionality without “rapid...”, although on-prem solutions do have their advantages, too (ability to run meaningful sql queries, for example).

Yes it has web-console in the cloud and probably the same/similar on-prem.

One of the big benefits of F-Secure’s solution is that it can be installed on-prem onto Linux, too (KSC can be installed only on Windows).
