Kaspersky security center license activation

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm IT support tech and I new in KSC usage.

Last week I've registered for the first time a new license (for 2023) in security center.

Our clients had expired licenses.

Since then, the license is spreading on our clients, but it might be very slow.

Our coworkers have a warning popup in Windows about the expired license, but a few other clients have their kasperky license activated

in addition, I don't really understand why I've got 79 devices running a reserve key. Does it mean that these devices are not protected ?

Why some Kaspersky clients are activated and some aren't ?

You'll find here attached a screenshot of my KSC license tab, and my Kasperky client activated on my PC.

Kind regards,

Alexandre Mével

Good day

You can see in your picture that you have the whole pack of keys for all the past years in your vault.

to understand whether these keys are used by some of your devices (which is unlikely), turn on the "Active on" display (or something like that, unfortunately, there is no English version of the console at hand now) and move it up with the arrows for convenience. this will show on which devices your each of the keys is used.

Expired keys can be deleted, they won't help you anymore.

however, when deleting if someone uses this key, it will not immediately disappear from this list.

And you will need to check what kind of devices they are and change the key for it, often there are a hundred of these “ghost devices” that are no longer on the network and in the company, but records about them are still stored in KSC.

It will just need to be cleaned, after no devices uses the key, but disappears from this list.

I also see that you have already installed the new key to distribute automatically.

but the old one for 2022 is probably still not over, and is being used by devices.

this is why your users are notified that the key will expire soon.

devices will not be requested from KSC, new keys distributed automatically until the old one expires.

at the same time, their protection will be relevant - as long as the old key is valid.

for a "seamless transition" or to speed up a key change, you can create and run a task

at next step you will select your new key from the KSC storage (red marker), and if you select "add as a backup" (blue marker), the system will add the new key as a backup after completing the task, and the client will start applying this key when the old one runs out, WITHOUT contacting KSC, as it will already be on the device.

if you do not select this item, the key will be overwritten with a new one, and you will see that the new key now has +1 device, and the old one has -1. And the client will now work with the new key.

I apologize for being cumbersome, but I hope I was able to explain.

the plan is like this.

1. remove the old keys - check the devices that they are being used, that they are still "alive" and change their keys.

2. to speed up distribution of new keys - create and run a task.

Hello,

I've tried your solutions.

The license key still in reserve, but the old one is out till 12/04/2022.

I've tried to remake a deployment task for the key, I've got an error message saying that the key still in reserve.

I didn't see any options to delete old licenses, how can I do that ?

Thanks for you help,

you can delete old key entries in KSC like this ...

or just by selecting the key and pressing the delete key

however, this will not remove the key from the client device, and there is no remote key removal task.

if for some reason it does not change automatically, by task or by auto-propagation from the server, try doing it manually on the client device

then try adding the key again.

just in case, here is a link to get the key files from the activation code you are using

https://keyfile.kaspersky.com/en/

and I'm not really sure that I understand the translation of your error correctly, can you attach a screenshot of the message ...

Happy new year,

Sorry for my late answer,

I've just tried your solution.

I can't delete old license, only the active one has the delete option.

There is no delete option in the right click menu (see attached file)

I really don't understand how the licenses are spreading on PCs

This license swap from the old one to the new license seems to be random ...

Do you know anyone with the same issue ?

Have a nice day,

Alexandre

happy new year

It's simple, it's not a problem ? so let's understand a little ... according to your picture

as you rightly said, it will delete it, now you can only use the active key.

if you look closely at the icons of the keys, you will see that the active key is "colored", and the rest are "gray"

Спойлер

image.png.05d3c6f5c042c353bd9a509a17930e4a.png

which means ...

1. Colored icons are the keys that you have added to the KSC server

2. Gray icons - keys marked for deletion or keys that came to you from client devices (not your keys activated on client devices).

when deleted, the key will not disappear instantly if it is used by at least one device ... it will just turn gray but remain displayed in KSC. it will only disappear when no device is using it.

Спойлер

and also if you connect to your KSC a device on which some commercial key is already activated (not yours, for example), it will also be displayed as gray.

to understand which devices use this key, go to the properties of the key, the device section.

to fix this, look at these devices, and if necessary, replace the key with an active one ...

at the same time, it could also be ghost devices - those that are no longer on your network ... but information about them is stored on the KSC server

to clear the server of ghosts - find these devices on the KSC server and delete them twice ?

1. from managed devices

2. from unallocated devices

Hi Elvin,

I looked closely to the unmanaged devices.

I've got 2462 unmanaged devices (see attached files).

If I understood what you wrote, I can delete all these 2 462 devices without any fear of further problems ?

Thanks for your answer.

I guess, yes.

The system will detect them again if you have them. or for some reason they were moved to unmanaged ones (for example, they didn’t appear for a long time).

here is information about how the system discovers and adds devices

Hello,

I just view something strange....

In the lisence proprieties the end of the license is 2023/12/04 but the end date of license term is set on 1970/01/01.

maybe the lisence file is corrupted ...

Yes, it happens, I met such errors several times.

contact your license provider

or through your personal account, ask a question to those support - https://companyaccount.kaspersky.com/account/login

however, they will not be able to answer you until 01/09/23 (holidays)

if the key works, then I think this is not a big problem with displaying information ... although I had cases when the key used to say that the validity period had expired

Thanks,

I've just have there answer wich is the same as your first one (delete license and reactivated one)...

I've got a dejavu effect ?
