Hello @SPANKYHP
Welcome!

  1. Which Kaspersky Free version & patch(x)?
  2. Which OS & build, refer: How to find the version of your operating system
  3. In the KAV Free Reports, are there any events that match the redirectedhwndhost issue?
  4. In Windows Event viewer, are there any events that match the redirectedhwndhost issue?

Thank you?

Hello @SPANKYHP

Thank you for posting back & the information!

  1. You're correct -> the installed Kaspersky software is v21.6*, for future information, to find the requested information, on the Windows taskbar or hidden icons, rightclick the Kaspersky icon, select About
  2. You need to update Kaspersky Free, but, before doing so, please share with us (your) region/location, so we can make sure the software is available?

Please post back?

Thank you?

Hello @SPANKYHP

Thank you for the update!

  1. Which Windows 11 build, in Windows search, type Winver, select the Winver app & provide the full build number information please?
  2. The Windows event log image is not helpful - you need to go thru the events - to see if there's anything that matches "redirectedhwndhost"?
  3. Using an onscreen recorder, record the "redirectedhwndhost" issue & post please - we need to see what you see?
  4. Explain - the actual user impact - what happens to (your) user experience - when "redirectedhwndhost" exists?
  5. Has anyone, from Steam (apart from Tim), responded, altho we guess they won't bc, you've decided it's the AV?
  6. Have you reinstalled Steam?
  7. Which Steam version?
  8. Have you added any Steam exclusions?

Please post back?

Thank you?

Hello again,

1. Im running windows 11 pro

image.png.c1257285cdec0e1c8cf3ba30376519c6.png

2. i have looked though the events log and cant see anything for redirectedhwndhost

3. I cant add a video because the video format isnt supported, however. its isnt wallpaper engine its just when i first spotted it my main background was a light one and my wallpaper engine was a dark one, its ANY dark background. if i use a light wallpaper background it cant be seen, but as they get darker its more obvious. using any background on my old 1440p monitor it wasnt visable. but now that i have a 4k hdr one it is, its stange how changing monitors has made this problem (my wallpaper was the same on both monitors)

4.the impact is, its bloody ugly, when kaspersky is open the redirectedhwndhost is visible even when in full screen. however any other app open its not visible until you go back to the desktop or come out of full screen.

5. no one has replied in steam.

6. i have reinstalled windows fully, so naturally i have reinstalled steam.

7. i haven't added any exclusions this time but i did when running windows 10

if i close kaspersky it goes away, then when i restart it some times it come back and others i can be hours or not at all untill next start up

Hello all,

I'm facing the exact same issue as @SPANKYHP with this transparent error box. I too have been experiencing it for months and am unable to find either an explanation or fix. I tried doing a clean reinstall of Kaspersky Free recently but this problem sporadically continues as normal.

Can this bug be logged with the Kaspersky dev team somehow?

Windows 10 Pro x64

Kaspersky Free v.21.8.5.452(c)

Thanks.

Hello Flood,

Here the issue can be seen on my desktop:

https://vimeo.com/807431529

And again using the camera on my phone for a close up of the window's header:

https://vimeo.com/807431561

As @SPANKYHP already explained, right clicking and exiting Kaspersky will remove this window. Relaunching Kaspersky again will sometimes result in it appearing, sometimes it doesn't.

Hello @tbcam88

Thank you very much for taking the time to make the videos?!

Please understand you see the problem, you are familiar with it, so (you) may be assuming that we also will be across all of the information, that the wrong assumption to make.

  1. Was there Kaspersky software installed before Kaspersky Free v.21.8.5.452(c) & did the RedirectedHwndHost issue exist then?

Thank you?

I've been using Kaspersky Free for approximately two years now. This was upon a clean install of Windows 10 so no, there wasn't any other Kaspersky software used previously.

This issue has been happening for several months now, sometimes the window appears upon Kaspersky's initial boot, sometimes it doesn't. It's intermittent in nature but happens often. Is there no way this can be submitted as a bug report to the Kaspersky team? Unless somebody here knows a fix, it's surely something that should be looked at at developer level?

Thanks.

Hello @tbcam88

You're most welcome!

Thank you for the information!

  1. So, (if we understand correctly), *before* Kaspersky Free v.21.8.5.452(c) the previous installed versions of Kaspersky Free did not have this problem?
  2. Version 21.9 is currently being rolled out; we recommend waiting for the Total Force Upgrade & rechecking the issue?
  3. For issues to be submitted to Kaspersky's Technical specialists, it's necessary to have a paid subscription license; from memory this is mentioned in the Kaspersky Free Customer Service window

Thank you?

No no, this problem has been ongoing for months - v.21.8.5.452(c) is simply what's installed at present. Kaspersky Free has been periodically updating its version number as normal so this problem has persisted throughout several iterations of the software.

Thanks.

Hello @tbcam88

You're most welcome!

Thank you for the information!

We understand the issue has been going on for months, v21.8.5.452 was first released October 2022 & has had 3 patches since: A, B & C; what we're trying to establish is: did the issue exist when you had version 21.3 & it appears as IF the answer is no.

  • ➡️Wait for the 21.9 TFU & let the Community know the outcome please?

Thank you?

Okay, I'll report back once 21.9 has been installed - have you any idea the rollout schedule? Can I perhaps manually upgrade to this version instead?

It was the same with me. Fortunately, with the help of a friend, everything is fine now

Hello @tbcam88

You're most welcome!

Do a clean install -> uninstall v21.8.5.452, *saving License information only* - do not check any other check boxes, leave all other check boxes blank, reboot, download v21.9 & install according to: Kaspersky Free, how to install or remove the application

A clean install of this new version seems to have fixed the problem. I'll be in touch if it rears its ugly head once more - thanks!
