Please, help-me!!! 😫

The Kaspersky has a false positive for the file wsect.exe. This file is importante for my job, it's is a program created by IBM to generate a security report. The antivirus sent it to quarantine and I cannot recover it. When I try to recover, it says “The Original folder is unavailable” when a try to select the original folder, it keeps showing this message.

I'm using Windows 10 and I know that I wouldn’t  need to use this antivirus, because IBM chose to use the Windows 10 protection, but, I had to install this antivirus by circunstance, to use a third part (costumer) vpn that requires an antivirus .

Below the message (in portuguese): It says: “It’s possible recover the file to original folder. The original folder isn't available”
But the original folder exists.

Hello  @elizeubh2006,

Welcome!

Even tho the popup advisory shows:
It is impossible to restore the file to the original folder. The original folder is not available. Select another folder. Close”

Please do the the following:

  1. Create a temporary folder, for example WST-1 in C:\Users\YOURNAME\, the path then is: C:\Users\YOURNAME\WST-1
  2. (in KAV) add an exclusion for the folder C:\Users\YOURNAME\WST-1

  3. Restore wsect.exe to C:\Users\YOURNAME\WST-1

  4. Move wsect.exe to C:\Program Files (x86)\WST

  • If necessary, once wsect.exe is moved back to the original folder C:\Program Files (x86)\WST, in KAV, add an additional exclusion for wsect.exe.

Note, there may be several User Account Control (UAC) permission popups, accept each one to complete the process.

Please post back if you need any help?

Thank you

Hello  @elizeubh2006

Just a followup, it would be good please, if you’d kindly submit wsect.exe to Kaspersky Technical Support, with a history of the issue and the steps you’ve taken to recover from the issue.

If the wsect.exe detection is a genuine false positive, Kaspersky will fix it.

To submit a request & the wsect.exe file, please zip it, name the zipped file Malware & password protect the zipped file, (I use “password” as a password🙃 ). In the detail of the request, advise Kaspersky:

Kaspersky has detected wsect.exe. This file is important for my job, it's is a program created by IBM to generate a security report.
The antivirus sent it to quarantine. It was unable to be restored to the original location. To recover it I had to create a temporary folder, add an an exclusion, then move wsect.exe to it's original location.
Please check  wsect.exe (imo), the detection is a false positive.
wsect.exe attached in a zipped file, password protected, password =    password

Please attach the pwd protected zip & your original image showing wsect.exe in KAV quarantine.

I’ve filled out a new request template to guide you:

When the request is submitted, you’ll receive an automated email reply, with an INC#. Within 5 business days, a Kaspersky Technical Support (human) should contact you. If you need to make any followup, you can communicate back & forth with the Lab via email or via your INC# request in your MyKaspersky account.

If  you could take the time to do this it would be most appreciated please?

Many thanks🙏
