I cannot change the formatting at all on docx that have been opened after the problem started.

I was trying to change the way that MS Office 16 handled VIEW. I followed the instructions on the site below and now I cannot change the formatting at all on docx that have been opened after the problem started. I assume this is a macro virus but K does not detect one in files or in normal.dotm. I have done the usual - reinstalled Office. Copied a clean normal.dotm, but the virus is hiding somewhere. Any ideas what to do?

Thanks

Hello @Dokfintong,

Welcome!

  • Which Advanced, Editing options are selected?
  • If KAV is paused and exited, can you change the formatting of MS Office docx?
  • If Windows is run in SafeMode can you change the formatting of MS Office docx?
  • Is it only .docx formatting that cannot be changed?
  • Have you raised the issue with Microsoft Office specialists?
  • Please make a video of the issue & post back?

Please let us know?

Thank you🙏

Hello Flood

Attached is a video. It’s a bit clunky and for some reason it does not show what I was doing on the ribbon. Basically I switch between PRINT and DRAFT view and I attempt to change the font name and point size in HOME.

Pausing or stopping KAV has no effect.

I am reluctant to open other Office components for fear of contaminating other files.

Haven’t tried SAFE MODE. Today was busy.

No I have not raised issue with MS specialists. I was convinced that this was a macro virus and started with KAV.

Hello Berny

I do not see in the new setup how to contact the Lab directly. I am here because I didn’t see any other link to real humans.

Hello @Dokfintong

  • That’s fabulous news😀 !  Thank you so much for letting us know👌
  •  Compliments to you on your video, it’s not clunky at all & it made working this out very simple👏

  • We’re delighted there’s no macro virus & that the issue is resolved🤸
  • I ran a test video, I’ll post just in case anyone else has a similar issue -  print view draft view formatting issue
  • Re “Is Use Draft font in Draft & Outline views new in Office 16? ” I honestly do not know, MS experts would be able to tell you & the Office 16 Change documentation will have a record of it if it’s an addition or new feature.

Thank you🙏

But now I am still stuck with the original problem: Office 16 will not allow docx to be opened in DRAFT view even if the ALLOW box is ticked in ADVANCED. I have tried everything now. I never ever work with documents in anything other than DRAFT view so this is quite annoying.

But that’s not a KAV issue.

Thanks again for your help.

Hello @Dokfintong,

You’re most welcome☺ !

  • Correct, the issue is not due to KAV or to a virus, however, we’ll have a look and share any findings with you, bc, the info will help all of us☺
  • Just off the top of my head, try signing out of Office, open a saved doc, does Draft view work?
  • In my test: Opened saved doc, changed to DRAFT view, edited doc, saved, reopened, doc does not maintain status of DRAFT view, but DRAFT view can be selected and editing of doc can be continued. Link

Please let us know?

Thank you🙏
