I am going to remove Kaspersky Free Version.  I do not want to try to make it work, i just want it off my PC.  I am going to use the Removal Tool.  How do I prepare?  How much damage can happen from using the Removal Tool?  Do I need to back up all my software?  What’s the worst that can happen?

Hello @PCMouse,

Welcome back!

  • Is there a reason you’ve decided not to uninstall KAV Free according to documented procedures?
  • I can see from your other posts comments like “I tried to uninstall Kaspersky but it will not leave”, at that time we asked for information & a GSI so we could assist, we did not receive any reply.
  • We’re willing to help if we can, however, to do that, we need you to provide us with information, so we’re not blind when we try to work out the best way to assist you.

Please let me know?

Thank you🙏

Hello, thank you for your response.  Before i download the GSI tool, I just want to make sure I will be able to remove it.  Will I be able to permanently delete the GSI tool when i am done using it?

Thank you!

I have backed up my files.  I am not able to create a system restore point.  Do I need to back up system image and software applications as well?  I am hoping there is no way a data collection tool would cause that much trouble?  I just want to move forward and I keep running into obstacles, and I am wondering if I am over-worrying about preparations.  If necessary I will see if I can figure out how to do a full-scale backup.  Thank you for your advice.

 @PCMouse

The GSI does not install any components.

The GSI exe will not “cause that much trouble”, whatever issues you’re encountering are not due to the GSI tool.

Look in (Windows) Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features, you will see there is no installed GSI software.

The general best practice recommendations are standard, if you’re unable to complete some or all & you’re unable to work out why, please provide the GSI data & or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

Thank you🙏

I have not downloaded the GSI tool yet.  I just want to get the log to you so hopefully this situation can be fixed.  If there is little to no risk, I will move forward with the GSI log.  Thank you for your advice!  :)

The situation is that since I installed Kaspersky Home Version, I cannot use my media players, it tries to block Google chrome so i have to hurry to open Google right when i boot the PC or it will not open, and if i am too slow, i have to unplug, replug, and boot PC over again and try to race Kaspersky before it blocks internet search engine once more.  It also blocks Avast search engine.  It will not let me update Avast antivirus.  If I manage to get Google Chrome open before Kaspersky blocks it, I have to then immediately open a very long Youtube video and keep that running or Youtube video will be blocked and again, I will have to go through steps of powering down PC, unplug, replug, boot, race to get Google chrome open quickly, and then race to open a long Youtube video.  As long as that video keeps running (such as ten hours of white noise) I am able to use Youtube.  If internet drops out for a moment, Kaspersky won’t let it come back.  And then I have to do whole struggle to power down, reboot etc if i want internet back.  I cannot use older software like the software with which I repower my old mp3 player through ISB cable, and i cannot put music on mp3 player, etc.  I cannot load video from iphone onto PC for editing.  It may have to do with my use of older softwares etc, but I am happy with what I have, no desire to update if it’s satisfactory as is.  So, if these issues cannot be resolved, I want to remove Kaspersky safely.  :)

Also, it takes a very long time for my PC to log off now.  Sometimes i have to hurry to power down if a storm is coming quickly (I unplug PC when there is electrical storm) and it is important to be able to log off quickly at a moment’s notice.

@PCMouse,

  1. Is the installed Kaspersky software, Kaspersky Free? Please tell us: name, version & patch
  2. Avast is on the software compatibility conflict listing.
  3. If you’re trying to use Avast with Kaspersky software there will be problems.
  4. For any “blocking” issues, we need images please?
  5. & open Kaspersky application, select More Tools, select Reports, select Detailed Reports, select All Events, select 7days, select Export, save the Report as a .txt file, attach 📎 the Report to your reply please?
  6. Shutdown duration can be affected by many things, if, for example, a storm is coming & I decide to do a fast shutdown, without gracefully closing all open apps, the system will try to shutdown everything in an orderly manner instead of kicking the system in the head.

Thank you🙏

I do close down all apps before shutting down, even when I am hurried.  The log off duration time got considerably longer after installing Kaspersky.  I also have to “Force shutdown” of “Task Host” and sometimes I have to force shutdown of the “logoff sound” (the little chime when Windows logs off).  I know all this sounds ridiculous, and it really is...I did not know what i was getting into when i downloaded this software!  My PC can’t handle it.  I just want things to get back to normal.  It all feels so very dysfunctional.

Kaspersky Anti-Ransomeware Tool For Home , Version: 4.0.0.1003(b), Not sure where to find patch? Yes, it is the free version,

@PCMouse

The (b) is the patch letter.

However, Kaspersky Anti-Ransomeware Tool For Home  is not the comprehensive AV protection offered  by the  other products in Kaspersky’s Home software range.

Let us look at the GSI data so we can help you set up the system, so 1) it’s properly protected, 2) the performance is not impeded, however note: 3) storms,  we can’t do anything about.

Thank you🙏

I started running the GSI tool, and it was running very slowly.  I decided to stop it and start over tomorrow.  Does it run faster with less applications open?  Should I let Youtube and Google chrome be blocked while I am running the GSI, instead of working around the problem, or does that matter?  Is there any way to optimize the process?  Is there any way to do it incorrectly?  I just want to be prepared.  Thank you for your advice.

It looks like my area could be having storms for a few days.  I will return with the log as soon as I can.

I know this is probably not the right place to ask, but can you recommend a good surge protector?

Thank you!
