How to get rid of popup ads for VPN

See example here. I cannot figure out how to make this stop randomly popping up. Very annoying behavior for software that I’ve paid for.

Hello @fj333

Welcome!
Thank you for the information & image👌

  1. May we know the VPN version & patch(x), x = letter, on the Windows taskbar or hidden icons, rightclick the Kaspersky icon, select Help, select About

  2. Was the VPN installed as part of other Kaspersky software or as 'stand-alone' software?
  3. Is Receive special offers, recommendations & news, from Kaspersky OFF

  4. Also, About security news, another Kaspersky resource to read, the very last paragraph may be relevant: “If you do not want to receive news on any of your devices, you can disable the receipt of news on My Kaspersky.”

Please let us know?

Thank you🙏

It was already disabled, unfortunately.

About security news → “If you do not want to receive news on any of your devices, you can disable the receipt of news on My Kaspersky.”

I have changed that setting now, though I am doubtful it will do anything. The setting says it is about notifications about “problems” on my devices. Clearly this was an ad, not a notification of a problem.

And today I get a survey popup which is also unsolicited. This is bordering on malware behavior. And of course these daily popups start arriving just after my 30-day money back guarantee window has closed. Amazing. I hate it enough that I’ll probably just eat my subscription fee and uninstall forever. Kaspersky if you’re listening, you’ve earned an anti-customer for life. It should not be this difficult to make your antivirus run silently unless there is an actual problem.

Hello @fj333,

Thank you for posting back & the information!

We totally understand & we agree, (ioo) both options Kaspersky has made available, that we suggested in our first reply, will not suppress the Use Kaspersky VPN on other devices popup spam

Also, apparently, Kaspersky claims advertising & surveys are ‘different’😡 , not where we come from!!

  • We encourage you to contact the support team, follow: How to request a refund for a Kaspersky application, they have the capacity to use their “discretion” and, if the product is spamming you/not working as designed, it needs to be investigated, select either Chat or Email, we suggest you provide screen images of the survey / daily popups.  💥 Also, it would be helpful to post the same image(s) here in your topic please?
  • If selecting Chat option, we recommend you request a copy of the chat transcript, make sure you fill in your email address AFTER the chat is activated by the Chat agent & complete the Verify your email address email AFTER the chat completes.

Please share the outcome with the Community?

Thank you🙏

Hello @fj333

Additional, we logged a case with Kaspersky, they say, turning Receive special offers, recommendations & news, from Kaspersky OFF, will suppress Use Kaspersky VPN on other devices popup → it’s classified as a recommendation

Thank you🙏

Thanks for the digging. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem true. But also my menus aren’t even identical to that article. Admittedly I never responded to your question from much higher up: I am using  Anti-Virus 21.3.10.391 (g) on Win10. And as you can see here, I don’t even have a “notifications” submenu under settings (nor is my settings button a “hamburger” i.e. the 3 horizontal lines, rather mine is a gear). But if I go to Settings > Interface, there are subheadings under there for news and promo, and I disabled every possible option. Though it is interesting the word “recommendation” never occurs anywhere on that page.

I suspect the support article is referencing older software, and the UI has been slightly reorganized since then?

Hello @fj333

You’re most welcome!

  • Thank you for posting back & the additional information, 🛑 the guide we provided above is for VPN, you will not be able to find the options in KAV.
  • There’s nothing wrong with the support articles; just that we didn’t have the correct information😥
  • So you only have KAV 21.3.10.391 (g), you’ve never installed Kaspersky’s VPN & you’ve never installed any other Kaspersky software, even in free or trial versions?
  • Go to KAV, Settings, Interface, select Notification settings, uncheck all 4 VPN options - note, ioo, this won’t fix the issue, but, there’s no point having any VPN related options on at all:

  • Go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Network Connections, search Ethernet, see if there’s a Kaspersky Security Data Escort Adapter installed?
  • IF “yes”, take a screen print & post back please?

  • Have you logged a case with support → please let us know?
  • A tip for using Kaspersky software, where ever there's a ?, selecting the ? will open the Help documentation, specific to the GUI window

Thank you🙏

I totally hate this.

When I first installed Kaspersky there was an option, difficult to find that enabled VPN promotion notifications to be disabled. But when when I installed it on this computer I was no longer able to find that? I use this PC principally for VR which is very demanding and the popups were crashing my machine. I enabled gaming mode and that seems to have helped though I still get these pop ups all the time. I don't want a VPN, I don't need a VPN and I really dislike pressure sales strategy. It is criminal.

I will not be renewing my subscription.

This can be disabled by uninstalling the VPN, I have disabled it that way on my machine and it's been working to this moment. But yes, that practice is disgusting, this is supposed to protect us not to try and take money from us at all costs behaving like damn adware, Kaspersky has truly went downhill, a shame it used to be good.
