Error 'can't load driver' Windows 11 Pro PE KVRT.EXE 2020 version

Recommended Posts

Posted

With a USB booting Windows 10 PE build, based on Professional 64 bit version 1809, the 2020 version of KVRT.exe runs.

However with a Windows 11 PE build, based on Professional version 22H2, after ticking the three agreement boxes I get the error message

' can't load driver '.

If the message was specific that e.g. xxx.dll was missing I could add to the Windows 11 PE build.

Any hints to either the missing prerequisite(s) or another issue will be helpful.

I have the trace folder with 2 files but can not upload as neither .enc1 or .zip is an allowed file type.

The content is pasted below after opening in notepad.

setup.20.0.10.0_2022.10.21_09.40.29_2752.log.enc1

Traces are similar to WinRE (recovery console) behavior. System runned from X:\ RAM drive.

Now KVRT doesn't support WinRE mode. May be we will fix it in the next version.

Note that using KVRT under WinPE/WInRE it's a strange case. KVRT checks the active OS. So you will check WinPE/WinRE system instead installed OS. Only all drives scan will work.

While I'm not sure of the exact difference plus a different build tool although on the surface similar as in my first post KVRT2020 does run within my build of Windows 10 PE i.e. Win10RE.

Similarly KVRT2016 runs on my build of Windows 7 SP1 PE i.e. Win7RE.

So the above statement in reality is not univerally true.

This is why I thought the issue was simply something missing e.g. a .dll in the Windows 11 build causing the issue.

Yes I am aware to be useful either scan all drives or specifically the system OS drive ( letter / partition ) must be selected. I normally do the former.

Presuming KVRT reports the drive as clean I then know safe to connect as a slave drive for data recovery. The same applies to files being transferred on a USB drive from an unknown / untrused source.

I have the same problem, when I use KVRT in Windows 10 PE, I get a message that I can't read the C:, I have used the -d parameter to specify the X drive, but it still says: can't load the driver
I found that KVRT creates a sys file in C: when I use it in full Windows, so I hope you can provide the ability to change the location of the sys file creation via command line, so that might be helpful to solve this problem.

I finally managed to get it working by creating a windows .bat script with the following code.

( X: is the WinPE windows dir and b: is the ram disk dir - change these values compatible with yours)

Today I had to accept the new forum rules, and I read:

I have a problem here...

On a French forum, we help with Kaspersky tools, and I sometimes copy and paste, for example, from @Yury N.'s answer regarding KVRT and WinPE operation and include the link, because we're also waiting for the update for a Live CD.

So all this is now prohibited?
