confused by opentip.kaspersky.com/. When was the last time a website was scanned?

Internet Security Support suggested using https://opentip.kaspersky.com/

When I submitted github.com URL as a destination to what I thought should be checked out, within a split second it returned to me and told me it was a site with a good reputation and I could not see any other activity as a result of my attempt to scan the site.

The response was so fast that I KNOW it was not enough time to scan the site, so I was not assured that I could trust the results at that moment in real time.

The fact is, if you browse the Internet you will find out that the site was attacked and contaminated several times this year.

I am suspicious of the github.com site for three reasons:

  1.  The other day, the very second I went to the front page of this site, there was a malware attempt to enter my computer which Kaspersky stopped.
  2. There is a LARGE repository of malware source in gethub packages on the site:
    ( see https://github.com/search?q=malware )
  3. As I am protected more than one way, I felt safe at least posting to the github forum as github.com is used a lot by IBM, Eclipse projects and I needed one of these from the github.com site very much.  But when I tried to log in, it told me my login sign on was used on a lot of sites (untrue) and had to be changed.  I experimented by starting to type in a new password…. BUT THE SCREEN REFRESHED for every character I typed indicating very suspicious behavior.

So The response I got from https://opentip.kaspersky.com/ saying that it was a good site did not satisfy me as being good enough.

What I really wanted was to be able to scan the site directly for problems when I was at https://opentip.kaspersky.com/ but it didn’t seem to me that there was any way to do this.  So now I am stuck without a solution to my needs.

(I realize that this such an ability to scan might be a source of possible denial of service abuse, and maybe that is the reason I can’t do that.)

What is your feedback?  I want to know how do scan the site if possible.  So I can get in and get out with what I need without being having to have doubts about whether I am doing is OK.

So at the very least I would like for Kaspersky to take a hard look at github.com.

Sincerely, John Sellers

Thank you for your considerate response.

You ask: “Did you submit  the URL for reanalyze ?”

Yes I did.  Right after the initial response below, but I have heard nothing back from the reanalyze request I submitted.  Unfortunately in that request I did NOT have any way to tell them that I had been attacked by a virus or the other specifics I enumerated in my note preceding this one.  Therefore their response may be different if they had known the specifics I enumerated in my previous forum note….

The specifics would have helped them to make a more direct action or enable them to understand why I wasn’t happy with  just historical reputation rather than today’s immediate condition of the site.

I would have been much more satisfied with something more immediate similar to scanning a file… what’s more it is more systematic and good that the two situations be treated with a similar paradigm.

Sincerely (and Be Safe),

John Sellers
