I bought and installed Kaspersky Total Security, setup passwords, wrote them down etc. Restarted at some point (Windows 10) and it won't accept my 'main' password. Had I known that the 'main' password would lock me out of Windows, of course I wouldn't have made one. Nothing works. Everything I try asks for a password that it doesn't accept. Any ideas?

@FakbatWelcome

As I understand it, you have set a password on KTS and this is preventing you from accessing Windows? 🤷‍♂️

When you set/change the KTS password, it is set only on this product and not on the operating system.

Please see it How to reset a password for a Kaspersky application

Hello @Fakbat

Welcome!

  1. IF the issue is the Kaspersky application password is locked / inaccessible -> read: I forgot my password. What should I do? You will be running Kaspersky's password resetting toolKLAPR.zip. The tool must be run with the computer in Safe Mode - follow the instructions carefully.
  2. *After* the password is reset - you can choose to use a password OR have no password - it's your choice.
  3. IF (you're) locked out of Windows, click the Windows -> Reset Password option found below the password field. This option will appear for local Windows 10 accounts after entering the password incorrectly once. Windows 10 will ask a series of security questions that you set up when you created the account. You'll be able to change the password if you answer the questions correctly.
  4. OR, if (you've) previously created a Password reset disk, use it.
  5. OR contact Microsoft support.
  6. OR, reinstall Windows 10.

If you get stuck or need help - please post back?

Thank you🙏

Well, I stuck. It won't boot into Safe Mode, just goes back to the password entry. I only have my phone so I can't transfer KLAPR to anything useable, I've been at this since 6am and I have no idea.

Thanks for your help but I think there's nothing left to do other than pull the hard drive, get another laptop and see if I can recover anything with a USB bridge. I really can't believe it, I've lost everything because of Kaspersky?

Unfortunately I have tried to contact Kaspersky. No reply in 24hrs. I just can't believe it. I don't really see how Microsoft can help when the problem was caused by Kaspersky... Very upset, so many pics. My brain  isn't working anymore now. Thanks.

Hello @Fakbat

Thank you for posting  back & the update!

  1. *Depending on the region/location* Kaspersky Online Chat agents may be available, or contact by Email, if (you) received an automated incident acknowledgment email - after logging the request, prefixed with INC0000, a Kaspersky support agent will respond, it may take 2 to 5 business days, but often is quicker.
  2. We also encourage (you) to raise the issue with Microsoft Technical Support.

Thank you🙏
