US, Windows 10, license expires March 12, 2025.

Both Kaspersky and UltraAV are running. Performance Is slow, Firefox occasionally completely freeses for about a minute. The menus are very slow to open in LibreOffice documents (3-5) seconds.

These processes are loaded in task manager.
Kaspersky (32 bit)
Kaspersky lab launcher (32 bit)
Kaspersky VPN secure connection (32 bit)
Kaspersky VPN secure connection service (32 bit)
AV Active monitor service
AV Active monitor tray
AV Watchdog service
AV Active monitor service
AV DBServer

AV UltraVPN

Previously I tried to solve this problem by uninstalling UltraAV. But then when I learned that the database doesn't update, I reinstalled it. There are now mixed indications of the database being updated.
Also, the proces "System" is about 30%

Q Should both security programs be running at the same time?
Q How can I improve the performance?

Hello @stanhilliard

Welcome back!

  • A.   All valid Kaspersky licenses will keep functioning until their original expiration date.
  1. No. DB updates will not work for Kaspersky due to the US ban, read: Database update and connectivity to Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) cloud service: "Kaspersky will be prohibited from providing product updates to US customers, including antivirus signature and codebase updates. Security apps will be disconnected from Kaspersky Security Network, which will limit the operation of some product features."
  2. Uninstall UAV. Use a good, free VPN to get Kaspersky software & updates from a country other than the US - read Updating anti-virus databases and application modules Kaspersky update servers & see following image, *also* - again using a VPN, download latest version from this link: https://www.kaspersky.com/downloads#update-product

Any issues or concerns, please post back.

Thank you🙏

Since my AV Active Monitor Service is running I expect I also have a current antivirus signature data base to go with it. I inquired to UltraAV support to be sure about that and the reply was to say my account is expired and they gave their published prices to buy their products. I suspect I was answered by a chat bot programmed only to sell.

I didn't try to get a free VPN to try. I am tired of messing with this so I think I will remove UltraAV again and buy BitDefender. I might experiment with it's VPN to update the Kaspersky database manually. But more likely performance will be degraded having both systems, so I would likely give up on Kaspersky and remove it.

I have both virus protection apps on PC's as well. Because the transition did NOT happen the way they said it would for everyone.

So, guess what the latest problem is with this transition, or in my case - LACK of a transition? The transition never happened for me. After waiting until mid-October I finally contacted UltraAV and following several email exchanges they sent me the link to go ahead and download & install UltraAV myself. Great, even though it had no further instruction such as should I UNINSTALL Kaspersky first, or would this installation work the same way as those others that transitioned - removing Kaspersky as it replaced it. All of the notices we received or read said: "You don't have to do anything. It will all happen automatically for EVERYONE."

This was not true. When my attempt to install the application went awry, I I got halted on a page wanting me to purchase their product while I was trying to do the required to register/set a password. Using the chat feature they eventually determined that "No it doesn't happen for everyone as we were told." Like many others I purchased my Kaspersky products via Costco and Amazon. So, guess what - - yes, THOSE accounts were NOT transferred over to UltraAV.

I eventually was able (on my own) to circumvent that payment page and now have the VPN running and did my first scan run.

But I am not out of the woods yet! I just tried to check if my subscription expiration date (which should be March 2025), but there is not even a "Membership" section when I get to the "Account Info" page that the instructions indicate should be there. WTH?

I would suggest ditching UltraAV and purchasing another AV product instead. I've yet to hear anything good about UltraAV and still haven't seen any independent testing done on the software. The UltraAV software itself is only 3 months old; I'd rather use one that has several years or maybe decades of research, testing and development behind it.
