Access problem when reinstalling software

Hello

Today I remembered that there was a problem some time ago and I forgot to mention it in the forum in case it was useful to someone:

I have been using password managers for several years, I started using Bitwarden, which is free and then added the Kaspersky password manager and I have kept both constantly updated. Some time ago I had to format my PC, when reinstalling the Kaspersky software a problem arose. To do so, the system asked me for the password to access my My Kaspersky account, but that password is stored in the password manager, so I needed the password (which I didn't have) to access the password that enabled my access to the My Kaspersky account and the password manager. Surely other users have had this same problem, I was saved by the Bitwarden password manager, which allows access to the vault using the MASTER PASSWORD (which I do remember), by accessing the Bitwarden vault I was then able to access the passwords of all my accounts, including Kaspersky, but if I had not had Bitwarden updated I probably would have permanently lost access to all the accounts I have.
ACCESS TO MY KASPERSKY SHOULD BE DONE USING THE MASTER PASSWORD (easier to remember) and not a password generated by the Kaspersky password generator.

I leave this information in the forum in case it is useful to other users and in case forum users can communicate with the Kaspersky company to resolve this issue (if it has not already done so).

Thank you.

Hello @Raimgash

Welcome back!

(ioo), very bad idea & here's why, how are people who follow your guidance going to protect their very precious KPM data stored in the MyKaspersky (MyK) account?

The MyKaspersky account is the portal to:

  • Protecting devices
  • Managing subscriptions
  • Protecting children
  • Shared protection
  • Protecting private information
  • Securing your Internet connection

& much more; when subscribers have problems often their first point of contact is the Kaspersky Service Desk & while we believe all Kaspersky staff have the strongest commitment to protecting Kaspersky users privacy & data & would never abuse that; there's always a risk - using the KPM MASTER password as the MyK password increases that risk exponentially.

Many people use KPM password generator to create a KPM MASTER password - we do not understand (your) logic, other than it indicates (you) have trouble remembering passwords.

The KPM MASTER password is known only to (you), IF it's lost or forgotten or unusable - Kaspersky cannot recover it - how do (you) propose Kaspersky managing MyK access problems for their subscribers when at the same time they have the golden egg?

*Before* formatting (your) PC did you do any preparation, like exporting KPM -> (KPM will export notes and credentials to a TXT file, KPM doesn't protect the TXT file with the exported data. You must protect the exported data on your own) -> so you had access to the passwords?

*Do (you) use KPM on another device, a mobile for example?

There's nothing stopping (you) making (your) KPM MASTER password & (your) MyK password the same.

Hello

I thank you for your response, I had never thought that the master password and the "My Kaspersky" password could be the same, that solves the whole problem, the other protection or prevention measures must be taken before and in a planned manner, I will keep it in mind.

Thank you.
