Windows Defender Firewall Stuck on starting!!

After uninstalling Kaspersky, I'm encountering an issue with Windows Defender Firewall starting and immediately stopping. Microsoft Firewall Defender troubleshooter also indicates that Kaspersky is still running, even though it has been uninstalled. Is there any utility or registry manipulation I can use to fully clean up the Kaspersky leftovers?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @rogerbolick

Welcome!

  1. Since removing Kaspersky has the computer been shutdown using Shutdown, not Restart, then powered ON by pressing the Power button? IF 'no', please do that, IF 'yes' please continue...
  2. Use Kavremover, run the computer in *Safe Mode* - read the documentation carefully.

Any issues or concerns, please post back?

Thank you🙏

Thank you very much for your time.  I followed your instructions to run the removal utility but unfortunately it didn't work. After running the utility, I looked into the registry and noticed there were a few leftover entities of "Kaspersky".  I have attached a copy of the message that I got form Microsoft firewall troubleshooter.

Hello @rogerbolick

You're most welcome!

Thank you for posting back & the information!

  1. Exit the Troubleshooter.
  2. Export the Registry (so you have a backup).
  3. From Resplendence Software Projects, download & run as *Administrator* Registrar Registry Manager 9.20; when the software is installed, select Home, then in the GUI, on the left hand side, in the Search field, enter Kaspersky & select Find, delete all found Kaspersky Keys.image.thumb.png.d8fb7e1a87d30b57e5b994b0e049d807.png
  4. Also, in Safe Mode, the following temp areas should be *cleared*
  • C:\Users\YOUR_USER_NAME\AppData\Local\Temp
  • C:\Windows\Temp

Any issues or concerns, please post back?

Thank you🙏

Hi Flood,

I am sorry for the delay, I was very busy working on a different project.  I used the utility that you suggested and followed the recommended steps, then reboot and deployed a Microsoft solution to troubleshoot the firewall.  This time there was no complaint about Kaspersky antivirus existed and successfully reset my firewall.  Thank you very much for your time and your great advice, save me a lot of time.🙏
