I bought Kaspersky KIS to use VPN which is bundled. They forgot to tell buyers the VPN is pathetic and doesnt work. In over a week i have only managed to connect once and it was appallingly slow.

99.9 % of attempts to start VPN fails.

WTF is your problem Kaspewsky? Too fkn cheap to supply VPN as promised with your 1920s servers hidden away in Crimea somewheres?

Considering a refund and ditching this service.

Hello @Trent

Welcome!

KIS comes with standard/Free VPN → to use Kaspersky VPN Premium, it’s necessary to purchase a separate subscription.

Using the standard version of the application, you can only access a free server. When using a free server, the application automatically selects the region.

About Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection

  • You can use the application on all of your devices.
  • You can use 200 MB of secure traffic per day on each device (300 MB if your device is connected to My Kaspersky, and 500 MB if the device is connected to My Kaspersky and you have an active Kaspersky Security Cloud subscription on My Kaspersky).
  1. Has an uninstall & clean install of the Kaspersky VPN only been done ?

Please let us know?

Thank you🙏

Why do i need to pay for the “premium” service when KIS is advertised as already having VPN?

If the “standard” VPN doesnt work (which it clearly doesnt) then why include or advertise it?

As an Australian customer, the standard VPN is crap which seems by design.

Hello @Trent

Thank you for posting back!

  1. KIS is advertised with Free VPN with up to 300 MB of traffic per day → images are from Kaspersky’s Australian website (aqua & yellow highlights & numbers are ours) → the free version of VPN Secure Connection is limited to 200 Mb of encrypted traffic per day; 300 MB if a one time connection is made to (your) My Kaspersky account, for an unlimited number of devices and one automatically-chosen virtual server. The premium version provides unlimited traffic for five devices and your choice of virtual servers, for a month or a year, depending on the subscription.
  2. & 3. Kaspersky VPN software does not change based on regional distribution → the solution combines Kaspersky’s in-house development with open-source Virtual Private Network technology. Servers encrypting and redirecting user traffic are located in different countries around the world, including the USA, Germany, Singapore and many others. They are provided by Kaspersky’s partner, the software company Pango. By default, user traffic goes through the quickest virtual server available at the time, which could be located in another country. Premium users can choose a server in any of the supported countries.
  • ❓ Has an uninstall & clean install of the Kaspersky VPN only been done ?

  • ❓ Please let us know if any troubleshooting has been done?

Thank you🙏

Why would i waste time trouble shooting something that is woefully inadequate to start with?

I have only connected once in hundreds of attempts. The server was based on the other side of the world and i managed to use 74 Mb of my allotted 300 Mb.

You seem to be missing the point that Kaspersky “free” VPN is crap by design. Making people jump through hoops and uninstalling and reinstalling software wont fix pathetic VPN server locations compared to the client.

Yes, obviously PREMIUM users choose a location that actually has more bandwidth allocated than the woeful free servers.

All in all a disappointing purchase for something that should be flagged as false advertising.  (FREE VPN)

Hello @Trent

.Thank you for posting back!

We’ve read everything you’ve written, no “missing the point”.

Re “bandwidth”, if you mean available data, yes the Premium subscription is unlimited data quantity & the Free version is limited to 200mb or 300mb a day; however, both Free & Premium use identical technology, remote virtual servers, etc., etc., everything is the same → there are no remote virtual servers that are dedicated to users of Kaspersky VPN Free.

It’s very difficult to assist someone who’s made up their mind about a root cause, without doing any troubleshooting.

IF you wish, you may contact Kaspersky Technical Support, select Connectivity issues, VPN-related issues template, Support may request Traces, Logs & other data → they will guide you:

  • After submitting the case, you’ll receive an automated email with an INC+12digits reference number, then, normally, within 5 business days, a Kaspersky Technical Support human will be in touch, also by email, you may continue to engage with the Kaspersky Technical Team via email or by updating the INC in their MyKaspersky account.
  • Please share the outcome with the Community when it’s available?
  • Or How to request a refund for a Kaspersky application

Thank you🙏

And just as expected. I tried to connect to VPN, failed. Uninstalled VPN and rebooted. Installed VPN and tried to connect. “Failed to connect. Try to reconnect later”

Now i expect you want me to jump through more hoops with support for something we all know is a gimmick. Free VPN is useless.

No, limit is not bandwidth. I suspect your servers for free VPN are more congested. Using premium gives the user the ability to choose a more suitable server.

Hello @Trent

Thank you for posting back!

Support may be able to assist, at the very least they’ll be able to analyse the traffic, if you choose to contact them, please include Wireshark data; the Kaspersky Community cannot resolve this.

Thank you🙏
