Secure Keyboard: can input my password in a variety of ways? A tap on the track pad is not interpreted as a click with onscreen keyboard.

I’m new to Kaspersky (Internet Security 2020) and have a couple of questions.

  1.   Entering passwords securely.   So, when I’m in the secured browser (Firefox in my case), and click in a password field, it says “Secure keyboard input is enabled”.  Now, I can input my password in a variety of ways, using my laptop keyboard, using the Kaspersky onscreen keyboard, using the Windows onscreen keyboard, and even copy and pasting a password into the password field.  Are all these input methods protected?
  1.   I use a track pad on my  laptop (no mouse), and with every other application I’ve ever seen, a tap on the track pad is interpreted as a mouse click.  However this doesn’t seem to work with the Kaspersky onscreen keyboard.  Is there some setting I don’t have set correctly?

Thanks

Hello @Maike13,

Welcome!

🅰 Regarding (1) methods & protection:

  1. Using laptop keyboard = Yes
  2. Using Kaspersky onscreen keyboard = Yes
  3. Using the Windows onscreen keyboard - ask Microsoft
  4. Copy and pasting a password into the password field - Yes

🅱 Regarding (2) Controlling the KOSKB with a trackpad, in my tests, it’s not working, Kaspersky Technical Support are looking into it, we’ll update you as soon as they answer.

Thank you🙏

Thanks for the replies.  Yes, I checked and I’m getting the same results.  While checking I discovered something interesting though.  On my trackpad, you can perform a tap and drag, by double tapping the trackpad but not lifting your finger off the trackpad after the second tap. then sliding your finger around the trackpad.   Terrible description, but I’m sure you know what I mean.  Anyway if I do this tap and drag on a KOSKB key, it types the key.  This seems to work perfectly.  I also notice that if  I try moving the KOSKB by tapping and dragging (on a non-key area), the KOSKB moves very sluggishly and very jerkily.

Hello @Maike13

You’re very welcome☺ !

  • Please make a video of the “double tap/tap/drag” methods, also, include text description please?
  • FYI, I’ve just tried DTTD method, using it, how does any work get done😨?

Thank you🙏

Hello @FLOOD

I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that I’ve never made and posted a video before.  I guess now would be as good a time as any to figure out how to do this 🙂 .  I’ll see what I can do.  It may take me a few days though.  Old dog and new tricks.

Hello @Maike13

  • Thank you for sharing the information - there’s no reason to be embarrassed, if the need has never been present, why would anyone spend time on something irrelevant to their needs?
  • Screencast-O-Matic is free & easy to use.
  • Take your time, there’s no rush & let us know if you need any assistance?

Thank you🙏

Well I just installed Kaspersky Internet Security on my wife’s laptop and the KOSKB works perfectly.  Tapping the trackpad, with the pointer over a key on the KOWKB, types the key, just like it’s supposed to.  The biggest difference between our two laptops is that she’s running the latest Windows 10, whereas I’m still running Windows 7, so perhaps that’s where the problem lies.

Hello @Maike13,

Thank you for the video reference and the additional information👌

I spent days trying to apply those directions to the KOSKB/Trackpad, total an complete fail😖

Windows virtual keyboard & Gmail Virtual Keyboard, work seamlessly and immediately, Windows 10 1909.

I’ll test the issue on a W7 device.

If, on your W7 device, Windows virtual keyboard & Gmail Virtual Keyboard  & Trackpad are working normally, (imo), it’s not the device that’s the root cause.

I’ll also uninstall Kaspersky & reinstall and report back.

Thank you🙏

Hello @Maike13, Mike,

Update, on W7 Trackpad, KOSKB, works - no hiccups at all.

On W10, I uninstalled and clean installed Kaspersky, same result as previously, KOSKB does not work, the Trackpad works perfectly with Windows & Google virtual keyboards.

Your W7 Trackpad / KOSKB does not work “properly” or not at all.

Your wife’s W10 Trackpad / KOSKB works.

  • Suggestion, log a case with Kaspersky Technical Support, they’ll need a GSI  & Windows logs, a detailed history, video will help them understand and they may need Traces, they will guide you if Traces are needed.
  • After submitting the case, you’ll receive an automated email with an INC+12digits reference number, then, normally, within 5 business days, a Kaspersky Technical Support human will communicate with you, also by email, you may continue to engage with the Kaspersky Technical Team via email or by updating the INC in your MyKaspersky account.

Please let us know what they advise, when the information is available?

Thank you🙏

Hello @Maike13, Mike,

Kaspersky Technical experts have advised, the issue is being investigated as a BUG, this is despite the fact they insisted the KOSKB & Trackpads work.

They’ve suggested testing if the issue occurs in version 21TR (Technical release), however, imo, that’s their job, you may have a different perspective.

Thank you🙏
