does "kaspersky free" blocks "Drive by download" too ?

Yes, it blocks for a few reasons:

• Kaspersky products monitor the actions of ALL running processes
• Kaspersky operates with system privileges, allowing it to intervene in any detected malicious process
• Provides extension for browser protection against malicious links
• It also analyzes any downloads made
• Enables device scanning on demand
