Kasperksy majorly slowing down sign in to VPN

Ever since Kaspersky automatically updated last week, when I sign into my vpn, it now takes about 45 seconds whereas it used to just take a few seconds.  Anyone know how to find out why this might be happening?

Try uninstalling → clearing temporary files and caches → installing the newest version of the VPN

I am not using Kaspersky VPN, I am using Windscribe.

Kaspersky is now stopping me from accessing the internet when I activate my Windscribe VPN.  I would like to be able to designate Windscribe as an exception under Kaspersky, but I can't find out how to do this.  I am using the Free version of Kaspersky (21.16.6.467(b)).  When I Google how to do this, it says that I should be able to choose "Threats and Exclusions" under Settings, but that option does not exist.  Any help on this matter would be appreciated.
