Hi,

Does the backup & restore do a full backup each time, or just look for changed/amended/new files?

Hello  @Fozman,

Welcome!

Unfortunately, atm, KTS incremental backups are not able to be configured.

I use a combination of Windows File History & KTS Backup & Restore to cover disaster recovery requirements.

Thank you.

Thanks, @FLOOD for that.., what a pain… I’d hoped that it would be a nice simple process not a complete re-backup…

So, might need to look elsewhere, then.

Cheers

Hello  @Fozman,

You’re very welcome!

I agree, PIA, KTS Backup & Restore could easily be enhanced, it needs to be, atm, it’s “clunky”😖 .

Until that happens, for me, the priority is reliable backups, at all times, hence my use of combo solutions.

Best regards.

Hello @Fozman

I’ve had my KTS backup configured for a few years and it only backs up files that have been modified. When I look at the detailed status report it shows files that were not backed up and the reason for those files shows “File not modified.” I scheduled the backup to run Monday through Friday. It does seem to always copy the folder entries but today there were only two files that were actually backed up. I am not sure why mine is different than yours.

Ah, that possibly explains it… I have v19.0.0.1088(j)

Hello  @Fozman,

Is  v19. installed by choice? If not please update to v20, however, Kaspersky has introduced new requirements, before doing so, please carefully check:

Software compability requirements

System requirements

Unless you have a absolute reason for installing v20 over the top of v19 (my recommendation):

  1. Create a system restore point.
  2. Uninstall v19, save License information only.
  3. Shutdown PC, using Full shutdown (not Restart).
  4. Power on, login.
  5. Download & install v20, make sure v20 syncs with your MyKaspersky account.
  6. Complete Post-installation recommendations

Thank you.

Thanks for that, @FLOOD

I think I moved to V19 when I upgraded my AV licence, so I’ll see if I can install V20… interestingly, I note that Malwarebytes appears to be incompatible as does Windows Defender & Update for Windows… hmmm… surely, I’ll still want Windows to update??
I Malwarebytes is great for picking up on non-virus malware...

Hello @Fozman,

You’re very Welcome!

Yes, MBAM conflict is one of the new requirements.

MBAM is great for picking up on non-virus malware.

Windows updates, must be done and must be kept current, turning off WD will not have any impact on Windows Updates… If you’re referring to MS Windows Security Patche’s they’re separate, differnt & will not be impacted with WD off.

My recommendations:

Create a system restore point:

Prepare the system according to the new requirements, i.e. remove MBAM & WD off.

Uninstall v19

Reboot.

Download, install v20, run all of the necessary steps,  sync v20 with MyKaspersky account, Database update, Full Scan, etc.

Reinstall MBAM, but do not activate Real Time Protection = use MBAM in “on demand” mode only.

Thank you.

Hi @FLOOD , thanks, again, for the detailed notes

I wasn’t particularly worried about Windows Defender as I have Kaspersky!! 😀 However, it did seem to indicate incompatibility with Windows Update which was worrying

Hello  @Fozman,

Regarding “..it did seem to indicate incompatibility with Windows Update which was worrying.”

Please provide the exact “incompatibility with Windows Update details

  1. Where was the message?
  2. What app showed the message?
  3. Did the msg have any associated recovery information?

Please post back?

Thank you

Hello  @Fozman,

Regarding “Update for Windows”, advice, beginning: Saturday, 14 December 2019 16:49, from: Kaspersky Lab Technical Support experts:

  • 1 “Update for Windows" is an app like the others in the list. We unfortunately do not have more information about the app that we can share.
  • 2 "A software developer developed an application and called it “Update for Windows. We unfortunately do not have more information about the app that we can share."
  • 3 "Some of the applications on the list are apps that are popular in certain regions. We unfortunately do not have more information about the app that we can share.
  • 4 "Our experts have informed us that it is a third-party application. We unfortunately do not have more information about the app that we can share.
  • 5 "The query is out of scope of our support, as standard support, among other things, does not include the following:  reference: 4.15. Questions regarding third-party apps and/or operating systems. We unfortunately do not have more information about the app that we can share."

After 6 days of ping pong, Friday, 20 December 2019 13:41, Kaspersky Lab Technical Support experts "eventually" advised:

  • 6 "The application " Update for Windows " is not Windows updateAs informed on our earlier email it is a third-party application. We unfortunately do not have more information about the app that we can share.”

🙄

(imo) the fact Kaspersky write their own documentation, makes questions about the documented information, in scope🤐

Thank you🙏

Hi @FLOOD  thanks for your detailed investigative work - much appreciated.

So,  the “Update for Windows” isn’t the Windows Update program which is good (‘though confusing) & I agree that the fact that Kaspersky not seeming to know what a program is that they’re saying their product isn’t compatible with is sonewhat worrying…
Hey, Ho, software, eh?? 😂

So, over the holidays, I’ll have a go at upgrading to the latest version & see where that takes me…

But, again, thanks for your tenacity in finding out the information that I needed.

Have a great Christmas & all the best for 2020

Cheers

Hello  @Fozman,

You’re very welcome!

The vagueness Kaspersky’s information is concerning, especially as " Update for Windows " & “Windows update”, “sound” so similar…. And, MS use “ Update for Windows “ terminology, all the time.

But, at least we know, UFW, won’t cause any issues when you do update to v20👌

Good luck with the change, take your time, check everything & don’t forget the Full shutdown, between uninstall & reinstall, and once v20 is installed & updated, sync the dvice with your online MyKaspersky account.

Thank you very much for the Christmas and 2020 wishes, that’s very kind.

You and your family also have a peaceful  Christmas & a safe NewYear.

Best regards.
