Ever since I installed Kaspersky I can’t download ICO files.

Hello @DSS1947

Welcome!

  1. Which OS version → Windows, MAC, Android, iOS? use Read before you create a new topic! as a guide.
  2. Which KIS version?  use Read before you create a new topic! as a guide.
  3. Are there any .ico errors in the KIS Reports → post a full screen screen print of the errors, we need to see what you see?
  4. Has the issue been logged with Kaspersky Consumer support ?

Please let us know?

Thank you🙏

OS: Windows 10 Pro v 21H2, Build 19044.1415

KIS: 21.3.10.391g

In Settings>Reports and Quarantine Reports says Store reports no longer than 30 days and Limit the size of report file to 1024mb.

Bare in mind that I’m new to Kaspersky

@DSS1947  Welcome.

Can you please provide more details :
How do you generate your “favicon.ico”  graphic files  (tool or online) ?
From which (url)location do you download the objects,
or are you proceeding with a FTP client ?
Please reproduce the issue and check : Kaspersky → More tools →  Reports →  File Antivirus
Please post a screenshot from the Kaspersky alert ?

On my side Kaspersky isn’t blocking  “favicon.ico” uploads/downloads 🤔

Here’s the URL: https://iconarchive.com/

From there you search for type, click the specific one, and click ICO.

You save it to the desired folder and upon changing an icon, you pick that one.

From here click ICO

Your Kaspersky report is empty which means “no objects blocked”,
Why do you suspect Kaspersky , screenshot  below is not a Kaspersky alert.

Kaspersky doesn’t block the downloads on my side.

Well that’s a good question. I just figured I was able to download them before and now I can’t. Only change was installing Kaspersky. I will investigate more. Thanks for your assistance.

Hello @DSS1947

Thank you for posting back!

Also, your image, C:\Users etc (image 1 below), shows .ico does not have an app associated with it… 🤔

  1. In Windows, Default applications by file type, which app is associated with .ico files?

Thank you🙏

Ok now we’re getting somewhere. It showed that NO app was associated. I associated it to photos (Windows Recommended). That let’s me open the download, but none of the choices let me save it as an ico file. When I chose to search for an app it said no results. Not sure what got messed up, but I’m getting closer with you assistance.

Hello @DSS1947

Thank you for posting back & the information, we’re delighted you’re making progress!

  1. Post an image of the WindowsDefault applications by file type, .ico file association please?
  2. Post an image of the downloaded .ico file please → see our following images example please
  3. Also, once an .ico file has been downloaded, it can be edited & saved as .jpg, .png, etc. is there a reason you wish to continue to ‘re-save’ as .ico

Please let us know?

Thank you🙏

As already mentioned above , Kaspersky is not the problem in your subject,

[Off Topic] :

Download/Install a favicon.ico  generator/editor as indicated in the screenshot , this  will allow you to “save as ico”.

Also, for further advice please  visit some HTML  communities.
