@LimticBun

1. Disable antivirus self-defense - https://support.kaspersky.com/14818

2.Unload antivirus.

3.Run the file kis20.reg and allow the system to make changes to the registry.

4.Run KIS and enable antivirus self-defense.

thanks i will apply that :)

When is Kaspersky going to reverse the mad decision to remove the option to control version updates?

Now Kaspersky customers are forced to apply hacks to manage this issue😡 .

Has Kaspersky read all the topics/comments from their customers regarding the dissatisfaction with the decision to remove the option?

i got this from the support:

“However, if you don't have this option, unfortunately, the developers have removed the options to: → Download and install new versions automatically. → Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when new versions are available.

This is because our developers have deemed that regularly upgrading our products to the latest versions is necessary to keep the effectiveness of the security they provide.”

they have an issue with the software and force the update but don’t extend the license to that version… this is not acceptable

@LimticBun, the license should not depend on the version number.

If this problem arises, then you should not try to keep the previous version.

You need to contact technical support and they will solve the problem with the license.

i don’t know what to tell you, i asked them directly and this is the full response:

“Greetings!

My name is S****.I apologize for my late response. Appreciate you getting in touch.

Here are some steps to address the issue: 1. Open the Kaspersky Internet Security program -> click on the settings window (at the bottom left corner) -> go to the 'Additional' section and select 'Update'. 2. Select "Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when new versions are available".

However, if you don't have this option, unfortunately, the developers have removed the options to: → Download and install new versions automatically. → Do not download new versions automatically and do not notify me when new versions are available.

This is because our developers have deemed that regularly upgrading our products to the latest versions is necessary to keep the effectiveness of the security they provide.

Additionally, please also be informed that a suggestion/feedback has been proposed to our developers regarding this issue. As of now, it's hard for us to say how long it will take to implement them because all features are planned and evaluated the way in advance. But do keep an eye out for updates!

We remain at your disposal. S**** | Technical Support Representative”

when i update the software it tells me that the license code i have it’s not for that product… so i guess it is depended on the version...

@LimticBun, did you write to them that you have a problem with the license for the new version?

Posted

Just one simple question: does the activation code follows the rule -1 / +3 ? for what original product version was acquired?

Posted

@harlan4096, it seems that this rule no longer works.

I can't find it, but someone from KL wrote about it. If I'm not confusing anything...

i sent them this

“hello, i still have 375 days and the software updates itself telling me the license is not for that product (from KIS20 > KIS21), i have to re-install the app every day to keep the protection up… how do i disable automatic updates?”

aaand to their response i sent this

“hello, i already blocked the update trough registry editor. i don't have the option in the "update", that means my license i paid for is invalidated? kinda sketchy if you ask me...

if there is a problem with the software that needs an update it would be cool if you guys extended the license on that updated version... anyways, hope you fix the problem so people that are PC illiterate don't have bad experience with the product.

Thanks”

let’s see what i get back...

Correct @andrew75,

The +3/-1 rule no longer applies. The rule has also been taken off from the article below:

https://support.kaspersky.com/common/buy/12192

Starting from version 2016, a license is not bound to a certain product version, so users of 2016 version of the product may upgrade to 2020. If there is an issue using an older licence with a newer version, we can help resolve the issue.

Product like Kaspersky Internet Security, Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Total Security were released earlier, thus users with 2016 version will encounter this issue.

This does not apply to Kaspersky Security Cloud as this was a new product and it was not release yet on the year of 2016.

That’s very interesting BUT… what about with license previous to 2016? 🤔

so… it seems that the box i got was for a obsolete version that worked with the 20… funny because i lost it when i moved some time ago, they still updated it even tho they were in no obligation to do so… i lost it, my fault kinda scenario (have the code in my password manager secure note)

more reasons for me to buy the product for my family computers… ‘

@LimticBun

Thank you for the update👌

  • Agreed, as well as having the License & Activation codes in (our) MyKaspersky account, we keep all codes in the Password manager.

We’re glad  the issue is resolved!

Thank you🙏

@LimticBun Also, when adding a license in  MyKaspersky the details will only show the “license key” ,  therefore i always add the activation code “xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx” in the comments.

yeah i have both, you never know… keep them on different things, always have a redundancy so if you lose the box as i did you still have your stuff >_<
