Well I know it offers protection for companies or business users, what about a private single user like me?

For home users, those kinds of advanced tools against such attacks are not necessary :)

If you use KIS/KTS product, It can protect system to avoid network attack via Network attacker blocker function.

BTW. just like what @harlan4096 said, No one use DDOS to attack a person computer. What does it mean for an attacker to cut you off the Internet or freeze your computer? You have to think about it this way.
