Databases have not been updated for a long time

Hello @JohnSeersUnique,

Welcome!

Some other things to check:

  1. KIS software compatability check
  2. Check all Windows Updates have a “successfully applied” status?
  3. If any Power plans have been implemented, try resetting to Normal power mode - recheck? 
  4. If Sleep, Hibernate are used try shutting down computer with full Shutdown, not restart, after device is off, power on, recheck? 
  5.  “Databases are out of date” and "Databases are extremely out of date
  6. What to do if the database update process gets stuck

Please let me know the outcome?

Databases not updating automatically.

When I try manually nothing (so far) happens.

 

This has happened to me a couple of times over the last week.  Message today is databases have not been updated for a long time and last update was 5 days ago. 

 

  1. No.
  2. Reset? Maybe. Installed a new activation code a few days ago. Current not expired.
  3. Yes.
  4. I do not know.
  5. I will try this when I have found out how.

 

Here is a screen shot of update doing nothing. About 15 minutes.

I tried closing the Kaspersky software and it will not start again. Tried running as administrator. Tried starting it with a reboot of the PC. So no protection at all. :(

 

I will try uninstalling it and reinstalling.

Thank you for your replies. I did not see them while I was reinstalling the Kaspersky software. Reinstalling seems to have fixed it.

I saw this in one of your links so I think I took the direct route to fixing the problem:

“If the database update of your Kaspersky Lab application gets stuck, try reinstalling the application.  ”

 

When I was looking on “My Kaspersky” I saw a message saying “User stopped update on 22/1/2020 at ...”. Hmmmm. I cannot remember doing anything like that.

I noticed at the reinstall that there was a checkbox to install Kaspersky password management. I do not like software being installed without my specific agreement so it is a bit irritating to have to notice and uncheck the box. Perhaps that is the software I “stopped” from updating? I really wish Kaspersky would not install extra software under the radar. Kaspersky secure connection is another and it has just popped up on my screen. As that caused me a lot of problems in the past it is annoying to have to be on my guard to avoid it. It looks like I will have to go and uninstall it again.

Now, I do not know. Perhaps Kaspersky password manager is great and I should use it. But it should not be foisted on me. It certainly should not upset my current protection. 

There goes a couple of hours of my life. Not very satisfactory.

Something has happened to your Topic, information I posted previously has “vanished”🤔

Regarding KPM & the manner in which Kaspersky “offers” extras, I agree, (imo), during the install of all Kaspersky Home software, the extras should be offered to the Kaspersky Customer, at all times, Kaspersky Customers should be given the option to select or not - this particular aspect of the issues you’ve experienced has been raised (more than once) with Kaspersky Technical Team, it’s an ongoing issue. It’s very unfortunate you’ve wasted valuable time getting your KIS installation back to normal, just for clarity, (imo) KPM is not the root cause of the “Databases not updating automatically” issue.

It looks like Kaspersky Secure Connection installed without me having any say. (I have now uninstalled it - again). At least password manager gave me the option of not installing but I think the default should be to not install. The user should explicitly opt in to using the software. I think opting in would be to Kaspersky’s gain because the user then has bought in to using the product and will be more patient using it.

KPM is not the direct cause of the database not updating. It is difficult to determine what the actual problem was. I suspect it was something to do with me not accepting the default options.

Yes you’re correct, KPM does have the option, however, as you point out, “install” KPM is selected as default, this is the issue that Kaspersky Customers have complained about & this is the issue that’s with the Kaspersky experts. 

Kaspersky Secure Connection is the other “addon” that installs without Kaspersky Customer choice, again, this issue has been raised with the Kaspersky Technical Team.
