Chrome extension adds obscure links to the source code of webpages

Hi,

I am not sure if this is the correct subforum. I choose it because I am a Kaspersky Total Security user.

I noticed that when I activate the Kaspersky extension in either Chrome or Firefox, it adds links to obscure websites to the source code of any website. I see it only when I use the inspector in the browser. Not when I view the page source in a new tab.

An example you can find in the screenshot I made:

Why is this happening?

The moment I turn of the extension, the code is gone.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I will first list what you asked for 🙂.

  1. Windows 10 64 bit version 1909
  2. Kaspersky Total Security 20.0.14.1085 (h)
  3. Chrome version 80.0.3987.106
  4. KTS extension 30.255.180.0
  5. Firefox 73.0
  6. KTS extension 30.255.173.0

I have also Opera, Edge and IE installed and I don’t see the issue on those as they don’t have the extension.

I did what you said and followed all the steps.

I looked in Chrome at https://community.kaspersky.com/ and din’t see this issue. However when I look at other sites I do see it.

I added a screenshot from some random site www.fietsenwinkel.nl as well where you can see it. Why would I see it on a normal website but not on the kaspersky comminity site is another mysterie.

I tried an international site as well https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/. Still the same issue.

Open Chrome with the extension installed. Open the the Developer tool. Click CTRL and the F key on your keyboard and fill in http: and hit enter and keep hitting it untill you see the links I mention.

At least I hope it’s not just me :-)

Hello @Martin,

Thank you for replying, the information & the images👌

➡ I cannot replicate the issue you're reporting:

Mercedes

fietsnwinkel.nl without accepting cookies

fietsnwinkel.nl accepting cookies

  1. For Chrome, what is the setting for Block third-party cookies
  2. For Firefox, what are the Browser Privacy settings?
  3. In both Chrome & Firefox, is the Kaspersky Protection extension Private browsing enabled?
  4. In both Chrome & Firefox, is the Kaspersky Protection extension Private browsing, Allow data collection, on or off for Kaspersky websites?
  5. For Chrome, is a Chrome/Google account used?

  6. For Firefox,  is a Firefox account used?

  • Check: for Firefox, run the Default browser - does the issue repeat?

Firefox default bowser

  • Another check you may wish to try, create a new Windows account, retest the issue?
  • You may wish to ask Kaspersky Technical Support for their advice, they may say if there are no events in KTS Reports, and if web pages are accessible there is no issue, or they may say otherwise🤔

Kaspersky Technical Support; the support team will need a GSI & Windows Logs and they may request Traces, run as the issue is replicated; if Traces are required they will step you thru the necessary steps.

After submitting the case, you’ll receive an automated email with an INC+12digits reference number, then, nomally, within 5 business days, a Kaspersky Technical Support human🕵 will communicate with you, also by email, you may continue to engage with the Kaspersky Technical Team via email or by updating the INC in your MyKaspersky account.

Please let us know the outcome when it’s available?

Thank you🙏

Hi,

Thanks for the help. Just a quick additional question. Did you try to search for

http:

in the developer?

Click CTRL and the F key on your keyboard and fill in http: and hit enter and keep hitting it untill you see the links I mention.

Because only then do I see those weird links.

If I don’t search specifically for http: I see what you see (see sceenshot).

Regards,

Martin

Hello @Martin,

I cannot replicate the issue.

If you’ve done a full reset of both Chrome & Firefox & tested the issue under a different Windows profile using Chrome & Firefox default profiles and the issue persists, please contact the Kaspersky Technical Support Team as per my previous reply.

Thank you🙏
